What’s important to note about this moment isn’t the fact that Dick ordered them two milkshakes and was too preoccupied with their conversation to touch his. Never mind that everyone else got sodas in paper cups while DickKory enjoy a traditional date night beverage from a tall fancy glass.

The most critical aspect of this moment is their physical closeness.

Aside from the motel scene in S1, the writers have been overtly intentional in creating physical distance between Dick and Kory. Most of their conversations take place with several feet of space between them. Even in the scene where they share a bed together after the Asylum, they’re maintaining their distance.

Dick and Kory have this theme where their only physical contact is grabbing each other by the arm. She does it to stop Dick from beating up a guy in front of his son. She also touches his arm to comfort him for having to leave suddenly after he confessed his sins to the Titans. Dick grabs Kory’s arm to prevent her from attacking the nuclear family and to keep her from prematurely using her powers in the Asylum tunnels. Touching the arm of the other has been their only means of physical touch (outside of the bedroom) since becoming partners.
