He is Harper Light when it comes to things like Indigenous Rights, The Environment, etc.
Iâm all for pressuring Trudeau to do the right thing. I spent a lot of my free time trying to convince the Liberals to comply with things like the Human Rights Commission, backtrack on oil pipeline approvals, take greater action on Climate Change, etc. Iâd be perfectly happy with Trudeau remaining in power for a long time if he kept his promises and listened to the public on these very important issues. But he has not done that.
If push comes to shove and Trudeau doesnât change his mind on these significant issues, Iâm sorry but him and his party are not entitled to power just because the Conservatives are worse. Its borderline gaslighting to say we should stick with an incompetent, faux-progressive, centrist government when there is a more progressive alternative. Vote splitting is an excuse. It is possible to unite a far greater number of voters for an alternative to the Liberals that isnât the Conservatives. The Conservatives only got about 30% of the vote last election. Even with vote splitting there is a lot of room to grow a movement for a an alternative to the status quo. This isnât the USA where there is no option C. You do have to pick between either the Democrats or the Republicans.
There is a 3rd option, The NDP, and its an option which has a far better record when it comes to these issues of Human Rights, the Environment and Indigenous Rights.
