Adorkastock's Draw Everything June Day 9. A lot of trios to choose from but I went for red life Bamboozlers, and had a great time with the gangster vibes of the pose.

I certainly don't see it changing Doc's opinion on violence, though even a tender, gentle turning done out of fear for his well-being would make his already volcanic temper harder to control. Vampirism won't change the town's opinion of Doc. They already think he's a vampire by the end of episode 5, though the absence of his turning certainly might raise questions about his loyalty.

But. I have just thought of an analogy that would be fun to use. Because I love it when Owen Learns what Legs did.

It is like the doctor is an egg.

His is a soul perfectly shaped: smooth and round. Louis too was no ordinary stone. The cut of him glimmered beautifully and lit his surroundings whenever he smiled. For a time Owen had thought the doctor similar: a stone of unusual perfection among the cobbled masses, if of a make far more humble than Louis.

But no. He is an egg.

Because hidden beneath that kind and merciful shell--

In his mortal years, Owen did not often partake in good food. It was beyond his means; all his coin could buy was stale bread and last year's flour. His time in the forest let him supplement with greens and berries, let him set snares for rabbits and the like. But he had been too poor for fine things. Even eggs.

But he spent his days in the forest, and come spring the ducks would make nests in the reeds by secluded ponds that few but Owen knew about, and in those--

The yolks were huge, and gold, and they tasted like gold might. They were rich on his tongue when he pulled them from the pot, coating his tongue with flavor that felt like hearths and the summer days ahead and sinking deep into his stomach to leave him full.

He had so rarely been full, even as a mortal. There is a reason he finds the hunger so easy to bring to bear, for all that it bites at him.

The doctor is an egg.

Because beneath the perfect sculpture of his soul, beneath the stubbornness and care that other doctors had never shown, Owen finds a rich and wonderful surprise. He bares his teeth and forces them through the shell and beneath it, oh beneath it.

He had known that humans deserved death. He had known that the only true, the only just course of history was for Owen to fall upon them until they fell as wheat before the scythe. He had known that it was what Louis would want, and here, oh here was a gift as rich and fat as any duck's egg:

Proof that a man like Louis would agree. Would do the same. Legundo is like Owen because he is a judgement like Owen. He is an echo of Louis' perfection without, and a twin to Owen's truth within.

And now, all Owen needs to do is show him that the truth of him is nothing to be ashamed of or hidden or chained. That this is what they are meant to be: a cleansing fire to the disease of humanity.

Of course the other vampires are not Owen's to have. His real kin is this man. This is who Louis would have him find companionship in. Perhaps he is Louis' final gift to Owen: a human for Owen to make anew, make well, as Louis did to him. Already he can taste the golden days ahead: the richness of blood on his tongue as they wipe the world clean in one another's company.

By rights, it should have been Owen doing this. But when Scott had walked into the Castle and seen Owen stood in the middle of the room, drenched in blood, a limp body cradled in his arms and panic in his eyes, Scott had to admit he felt a twinge of sympathy. Owen was far too young to be taking fledglings of his own. Scott had already had to deal with Pyro's… over-eagerness, though, so he was not unfamiliar with having to support someone else's fledgling.

The lore stuff in this was me just playing in the sandbox that @audioeidolon created (with some further inspo from @deathsquiggles) when it comes to vampire hierarchy/coven dynamics stuff

But to sort of expand on what's being played with/hinted at here, for anyone interested and for me to clarify in my own mind:

-Scott had to effectively "adopt" Shelby as a fledgling even though Pyro did the actual turning, because Pyro is a fledgling himself. A lot of the sire/coven leader "instincts" develop with age, and under normal circumstances vampires aren't really capable of effectively raising a fledgling until they are at least a few centuries old.

-(Scott would have had to "adopt" Cleo too, but they basically did a speedrun of fledgling-hood due to trauma and the lingering effects of the thralling, so they are mostly self sufficient. I really liked the analogy audio used in their "duty to others" fic of a chicken taking on a rooster's traits in the absence of one. This is also a phenomenon observed in lions.)

-While Owen is over 200, he hibernated for most of that time so he still very much a fledgling "mentally" even if he has developed some of the physical traits of an older vampire (more effective control of his powers, longer claws and fangs). He's sort of a teenager in an adult's body. If it weren't for the whole Divorce(tm), he probably would be physically capable of supporting a fledgling, but he would have 100% either tried to kill Legs or provoked Legs into killing him the second Legs woke up, so Scott knew he had to immediately separate them.

-Different vampiric lines have different traits, that are both physical/visual and metaphysical, and certain lines/covens purposefully exploit/encourage that.

The Goldsmiths are basically highly specialized for espionage of both vampiric and human societies, and Scott's sire sought to cultivate that in his coven. This is why they don't have an immediate turning sleep (they have to rest a lot more as fledglings, but are not knocked out immediately for extended periods like Owen and Legs are), they have influence/charm powers like mild hypnotism, and they have very strong coven instincts (so they can be better controlled by their sire). I also headcanon that they actually get physically more visually attractive the older/more powerful they get (this didn't happen to Pyro and I have reasoning for why I can go into later).

Meanwhile Louis' line is much 'older' in its traits/development than the Goldsmiths, even though I headcanon Louis and Scott's sire being from a similar time period, because the line hasn't been influenced by bringing in new fledglings. Owen was the only fledgling Louis ever took in over a thousand years, therefore his traits draw on more of the ancient vampiric lines (a little more animalistic, with the wings and shadow powers). They also tend towards more solitary lifestyles and have weaker coven instincts (part of why Owen and Legs are able to fight back against Scott a lot easier than any of the Goldsmith fledglings would be able to - if they tried. which they don't.)
