Quokkas

Quokkas love to climb trees! They can ascend as high as 4 – 6 feet, which is pretty good for their size.

It’s like a housecat climbing to the top portion of a door.

Quokkas live on an island with no natural predators, so they aren’t afraid of or attack humans since they don’t need those survival tactics.

If you’re ever lucky enough to meet a Quokka, chances are you’ll break out in a grin. This popular marsupial is synonymous with Perth’s favourite holiday spot, Rottnest Island – a short ferry ride from the Western Australian port of Fremantle.

Around 10,000 Quokkas live on Rottnest Island today. Very small populations also survive in the mainland’s south-west forests such as those near Northcliffe.

Overall the species is listed as vulnerable due to predation by feral animals (cats and foxes), altered fire patterns and habitat loss.
