One of my best friends, after three years of worsening symptoms and shit doctors ignoring them, has been found to have a 9mm brain lesion. It's likely MS or something similar, it's definitely serious. And I feel so alone with this because (obviously and understandably) I'm staying strong and positive to them but I feel like my partner hasn't been the strongest support, my mom is in Costa Rica at some rich white person retreat to take psychedelics and find herself so she can't take a call. I don't know if any of my friends are really interested/up to sharing this burden so I'm really just barely keeping it together
[Image description: Series of Twitter thread by user @/RiotLinguist.
The first tweet is a quote retweet. The original tweet being quoted is by user @/Dleetafterdeath and reads: "Just pay for sex. The service exists for a reason."
The the thread itself reads: "sex workers are not a societal outlet for violent sexually entitled men. they are workers and they are people. supporting sex workers does not mean assuming their de facto sexual availability.
posts like this always reveal that the person actually thinks of sex work the same way SWERFs do: the presence of money bypasses the need for safety and consent
while simultaneously thinking of sex workers the same way johns do: they think of sex workers as people who have basically forfeited the right to standards, to decide when and with whom they have sex. sex workers are assumed to be consenting until proven otherwise.
the perception of sex workers as always de facto consenting, or of bypassing consent by way of exchange of money, is the attitude that fuels the extraordinarily high rates of physical and sexual violence sex workers face: their bodies are assumed to be publicly available goods.
an incel simply doesn't have an inherent right to access sex. sex will not fix or help an incel, bc the problem is their sexual entitlement. treating sex workers as the one demographic whose bodies are inherently sexually available (for money) AFFIRMS that entitlement.
i genuinely don't know how to explain that the idea that aggrieved sexual entitlement can be solved by a transactional exchange where the incel/john is almost certain to feel MORE entitled to sex as a paying customer is not a sex-worker-supportive position.
incels are not any more entitled to paid sex than they are to unpaid sex. the presence of money does not change anything. you still have to get consent from a sex worker, and consent is the thing that incels are furious about. they are furious that women are able to refuse them.
you cannot solve aggrieved entitlement & rage at the fact that women are allowed to refuse them sex by pointing to a type of women you assume will not refuse them sex. YOU are the one assuming sex work "solves the problem" of refusal! that's not anti-SWERF!
READ THIS FUCKING BOOK [Link to the book Revolting Prostitutes by Juno Mac and Molly Smith is attached]
Once again liberalism is just patriarchal christian morality with extra steps [Screenshot of text is attached that reads: "Liberal support for regulationism is linked to the notion that prostitution is something innate, perennial, inevitable – the dirty job that someone has got to do. This has deep roots: Christian theologians, for instance, have argued that commercial sex is an outlet for sexual impulses that would otherwise result in worse sins.4 The patriarchal double standard praises men for having multiple sexual partners but shames and condemns women for the same. Mathematically, the only way for men to practice promiscuity while allowing the majority of women to remain ‘respectable’ is for a small number of women to be extremely sexually active."]
AND ALSO once again, patriarchal christian morality is just greco-roman patriarchy with extra steps. time is a flat circle, nothing changes. [Screenshot of text is attached that reads: "Moreover, the types of sexualized situations shown on pots are not those associated (at least publicly) with connubial relationships. Johnson and Ryan describe the role of the prostitute “as some kind of societal safety valve” that allowed men to gratify themselves without subjecting free women to sexual violence or other behavior that might be viewed as below the station of wives.10 In Xenophon’s Memorabilia, Socrates implies this when he claims that the purpose of wives is to beget children, while the streets of Athens offer plenty of opportunities for men to satisfy their lust."]

Queen fan in the 70s
hi guys-
breaking from my normal posting to bring up something really important to me.
have you heard of powell’s city of books? they’re famously the world’s largest independent bookstore, lauded as a family business, tourist landmark, and progressive icon of portland oregon.
i work there.
currently our union is fighting to have the company pay us a living wage.
it’s embarrassing how little powells pays us- we barely make more than minimum wage right now- and most people don’t know that the famous business they’re supporting treats its workers like dirt.
when asked to consider our wage proposal, our lead hr officer stated: “We have all worked jobs where the pay and our personal needs were not in alignment.” this isn’t about personal needs “being in alignment.” my coworkers can hardly afford rent or afford to even feed themselves with our current wages.
what am i asking for?
if you love books, love or know powell’s, or just want to stand in solidarity with fellow workers, i’m asking for you to let powell’s books know how you feel about their insulting wage proposal: email our union and they will pass on the message to corporate-
it can be as short and sweet as you want to make it. we want to show the company that people are paying attention to the example they set and won’t stand for it.
also literally just sharing this post to let everyone know what we are asking for helps too. share it on booktok, tell your friends, tell your book club, spread the word. powell’s skates by on its reputation and in doing so hides its betrayal of the workers that dedicate their lives to make it the special place it is.
thank you for reading ❤️

Powell's is a landmark and an extraordinary resource. Its employees deserve to be fairly paid.
I'm, like, dealing with some of the worst depression I've had in a while and I'm really trying to push through but it is a struggle. I have such intense anxiety about friends and family members who are dealing with very real shit and I feel helpless. I haven't experienced excitement or true relaxation and not feeling gloom and doom for months and I'd really like that to, y'know, not be the case.
feeling frustrated and yelling into the void

Looks like my mom has Covid again, oyyyyy
I know she'll be okay because she's boosted and everything, but it just sucks
Not me returning to Tumblr to TMI
But
I started a very painful period last night, I HAVE A FUCKING UTI and the antibiotic I have to take is giving me headaches like I've never had, my very good friend is dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues (and I'm trying to be present for them without being overwhelming and trying to not overfixate and make this about my anxiety), and I'm having daily moments of anger and panic about visiting my mom this Wednesday because I know that she will not be respecting my boundaries WRT Covid and all sorts of things
anyways
I super do not want any of my friends and family members to get Covid.
But I'm at my wits' end with friends being like, "Oh, I'll respect your boundaries and your anxieties when I'm around you, I guess I'm just less stressed about this" in regards to this recent wave. Like?? Babe you aren't built different and this isn't just me being a worrywart. Fucking change your Christmas plans or you're gonna get 'rona and that's an NYC promise
B breaking his foot has been hell on my anxiety and I've been overwhelmed but tbh it's encouraged me to isolate even before this huge fucking wave (because I can't get sick when I'm doing p much everything at home) so that's an unexpected benefit
Not to brag/complain, but I am having a ✨✨✨very bad anxiety day✨✨✨ :)(:
CW disordered eating, body image stuff, overall a positive post tho. No reblags, thanks, just getting something out
I've been really looking into fat liberation, diet culture, intuitive eating, all of it, over the pandemic. Not only looking into it, but actively reposting stuff about it, talking about it, trying to incorporate things into my daily life. It's something I wish I'd known about for years, definitely in high school, I think I'd be a happier and healthier person.
But something that embarrasses me is I've still been using a calorie counter the entire time. I didn't trust myself to know how to intuitively eat, and I told myself it wasn't like my previous calorie counting disorder because of how I wasn't being restrictive like I used to be (something to the tune of trying to keep it under 800cal and also exercising for an ungodly amount of time, like 3 hours), that I was eating an average amount and didn't let "going over budget" stop me from eating if I was still hungry. But I knew that it still wasn't very enlightened of me, I knew I wasn't doing the best thing for me.
Anyways, all this to say is that I haven't used my calorie counter for about four days and I'm aiming to never use it again. I haven't deleted it yet (I have this anxiety about losing a lot of data?? Even when that data is irrelevant and I'll never reference it again??) but I plan to when I'm ready and this is the biggest step towards just being okay with my body since I was 16

Michael K. Williams for the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (2010)
as much as i am definitely anti-paywall and i wholeheartedly think newspapers specifically have a duty to not lock news behind a paywall, i think it’s important to keep in mind that the reason right-wing shit never has paywalls is because they’re being given a blank cheque by incredibly wealthy people who are relying on the continued existence of the infinite conservative propaganda machine. anybody not part of that machine instead has to ask its audience to help fund the news. it’s not enough to just demand that news sites remove paywalls (though they should), we also have to ask why they’re struggling to remain afloat while alt-right news sites rake in millions because they can afford to just throw out all the horseshit they can because they’re literally never in danger of shutting down or going bankrupt. like yeah sure the paywalls but this cannot be allowed just like in general we cannot seriously be doing this
