Like Edwin and Charles, Dead Boy Detectives was killed before it really had a chance to live, and I'm tired of seeing shows I love end so abruptly, especially when they're queer.
Netflix cancelled Dead Boy Detectives for the same frustrating reason as so many other short-lived, cult-classic streaming shows.

“Dead Boy Detectives' cancellation represents a wider problem with the streaming medium and the way that Netflix measures data. As the streamer tends to measure the success of a show based on its first month of performance, it means that very few shows ever get the chance to grow an audience. It also highlights the issue of the expectations placed on a show as there doesn't appear to be room for consistent performers or smaller shows that could build up an audience over time. Not every show can have a Stranger Things or Baby Reindeer explosion onto the scene, and this format consistently places those ridiculously high expectations on them. It's okay to have your high performers and your consistent performers; there is room for both.”
