⟢ Bunny Paraphernalia Pt. 12 (Human!Jax x Human!Reader)
Song inspo: NEW MAGIC WAND by Tyler, the Creator
Content Warnings: Toxic/unstable relationships. There's binary code at the end, so you'll want a translator :)
Synopsis: Jealousy can be cute. Well, that is, if it's not threatening to ruin a couple of relationships. But maybe it already has before?
Opening the main door, you look straight at the redhead who stands in front of you, both hands holding her usual purse as she awaits an answer to the door. Seeing it open, she jumped slightly, as she had been lost in a thought (something you find her doing often), but smiled immediately once both your eyes met. You smile back with a wave.
“Hi, sorry for the sudden visit, I–I know you can be busy at times, but… I just really wanted to see you for a bit.” She mentions, her voice quivering at the end.
You shake your head, opening the door wider, and laying a hand on her shoulder. “It’s alright, you never have to apologize for stuff like that, silly.”
The redhead clicks her tongue, disapproving of her behavior, yet still overcoming it in the physical sense. “I know, I know, but I can’t help it. It’s naturally built into my system.”
Letting out a delighted giggle, you move your hand back to your side. “Do you… wanna come in?”
It had to be done; after all, the soft droplets of drizzle were slowly becoming noticeable on the concrete of the street.
But god, you hoped the next words she spoke would start with ‘N’ and end with ‘o ’.
Momentarily, your eyes glance to the right side of the building, where’d the basement is, hoping that your beloved eyepatch-wearing friend would ignore the mysterious ‘thud’ you heard.
She flutters her hand sideways. “No, no. I was just checking on you after our last conversation. Plus, before this, I had just planned to stop by the bakery nearby, and they literally just put out their fresh bread.” She nudges her cute cat-decorated grocery bag towards you. “And well, I thought ‘oh, hey, let me get my buddy some too, since I’m close by!’ and I–uh, I’m here.”
You really couldn’t help but laugh again. “I love how thoughtful you are.” You move to hold her hands. “Even if it causes you a lot of overthinking that you’d be better off without.”
And he watches intently from inside the tall bush across your apartment. His head quirks to the side, as a scowl presents itself. He grits his teeth, grinding his bunny teeth back and forth as an exasperating emotional state runs through his veins.
The gears in his head, though, began to move as normal, shifting slowly without delay, only a squeak from the heavy tension heard occasionally.
Jax takes a deep breath in and lets it out, telling himself to at least do it thrice before beginning his antics.
As you continued to hold her hands, you saw a head pop out from the bush across your street. Your eyes widen momentarily before remembering swiftly that the person in front of you should not know about the person behind her.
Jax sticks his long arm out, waving at you with a huge, proud grin.
That you completely ignore.
This… this was going to be a game that felt too familiar to you. One you weren’t pleased to participate in. You knew, regardless of the result,s though, Jax would always somehow benefit. That self-gratifying asshole.
Letting go of her soft, warm hands. “You, uh– sure don’t wanna come in, even into the lobby?” You tilt your head to the side.
Jax, from afar, copied your movements.
“Wow, you really want me to come in. I’m enamoured, believe it, but I have to cook dinner today.” No, you didn’t want her to, but were being polite.
You mentioned the brunette’s name. “What are you guys having? I was kinda thinking of ordering out.”
She beams at your question. “Oh, so I had gotten sourdough bread since I planned on making tomato soup with grilled cheese, but instead of the plastic yellow-orangey thing, I decided on mixing Gouda and sharp cheddar!”
“That sounds delicious! I should honestly make more at-home meals, but I get super lazy.” You flick at your head, making plenty of movements with your hands as your nerves increase.
Jax was now out of the bush and walking back and forth as he maintained eye contact with you. Stopping for a moment to put his hand out towards the sky, feeling for any droplet.
You try your best to rely on the peripheral view and on him in the background. The tufts of bleached and black colored curls pranced around as if this had been a laughing matter.
Why can’t he ever listen to you?
“Hey, it’s okay, don’t beat yourself up for that. Stuff like that takes time and energy.” She reassures.
Pushing a hair lock behind your ear, you nod. “You’re right.”
“Talking about lack of energy.” She points at her phone, showing the brunette's messaging icon. “The reason I’m making this is ‘cause she got sick, came down with the flu.”
“How come? Oh god, please don’t tell it’s flu season.” You place your hand on the railing, showing your middle finger from the side to Jax.
Jax made a dramatic show of laughing hysterically in silence. His foot was threatening to cross the street.
The redhead shrugs. “I don’t know if it was because of the places she explores, which is my guess, or, as she theorizes–” She rolls her eye. “She might’ve gotten it from us going to check out that new movie that came out.”
It begins to splatter more.
And Jax steps onto the dark pavement. A large grin was present on his face.
“What movie? There are just so many.” You ask plainly, hiding your disingenuousness.
With your hidden hand behind the marble railing, you try to wave him off, pushing your hand forward with your fingers.
“Uh, ‘Triangle’, I think it was called? It was… interesting. Well, to me, since it had to do with purgatory, y’know? I read somewhere that it’s supposed to be a reference to Sisyphus. It’s crazy, I recommend it, but uh, I was the only one between the two that liked it.”
Connecting the web from fiction to non-fiction, aka your life, you perk your head at her. “Stuck in purgatory?”
“Yeah, like, it was a repetitive cycle where she would be forced to face what she did! Wait– oh my god, I’m not supposed to spoil it, and I just did.” She smacks her forehead.
Stuck in a place without your consent? That sounds familiar.
Jax stands in the middle of the street. Silently watching you both. A nauseating feeling grows in your stomach.
There was a part of you, a small, quiet part, that wished for a car to hit him.
“If anything, I'd rather hear you talk about the films you watch. You make it more entertaining.” You compliment her, watching the graying sky.
Her cheeks warm up, fighting back the smile that was etching on her face. You hear her giggle as she moves to cover her mouth.
Behind her bashful figure stood the long, tall male, arms resting on his sides. His grin was dwindling as the moments passed, a newfound emptiness present in his eyes.
“You say a whole l–lotta nonsense sometimes!” You see her stammering for words as she fans herself with her free hand.
Not being able to help your own chuckle, even with a side of the growing dread, you clasp your hand with the red head in front of you, setting your other hand on top.
“Well, you should get going now before it begins to rain. I wouldn’t want you sick.” You speak to her softly, almost not wanting Jax to hear.
Too bad he had good hearing.
And for a moment, everything became silent as you heard a neck cracking.
You shiver, shaking yourself back into the moment.
“You’re right, I’ll start heading home now.” But before she turns around to the creepily still male on the street, she digs into her large bag, grabbing a white paper bag.
Handing it to you, she smiles half-heartedly. “And, this is for you.”
Putting a hand at the bottom of the bag, and holding the top of it, you hold it close to you and let out a satisfied hum. As she gets ready to turn around, waving goodbye, your heart beats rapidly for a moment, only to go back to a normal pace after seeing not tussles of bleached and black hair on the street.
You focus on your breathing.
As she steps down the cement stairs and waves goodbye once again, she slowly moves away from your sight.
Then followed cold sweat that began to drip down your back. You didn’t know where this feeling stemmed from; there was no reason for you to be afraid. Utterly stupid. Scared of Jax? Tsk, why? Not like he's ever genuinely harmed you besides some emotional abuse in the past, and even then, could you actually consider it harm if it didn’t have a lasting impact? What would that even look like? You see, nothing to worry about when you don’t even hold a memory of actual torment.
Jax is just an asshole, but a lovable one who’s proven that he’s changed.
You feel multiple droplets on top of your scalp. You could only hope that she’d carried a poncho somewhere in that Marshalls Kitten bag.
Turning your body to the entrance, eyes meeting a clothed chest.
“Zooble left a message wanting you to stop by the cafe.” He begins in a cold tone.
Crossing your arms from the cold rain, you wait silently for a moment, waiting for him to move aside and let you in, and yet, minutes later, as you both stare into each other’s eyes, he remains still.
“Are you–.... going to move?” You question, tilting your head to the side.
Rain had begun to cover the top of your back, shoulders shaking here and there.
Jax watches you again for a moment, lips sucking inwards, almost as if he’s thinking about letting you into your own home. Taking a long step to the left.
Walking in, you scoff, heading towards the apartment, as you wonder about what exactly had set him off.
Sitting on the purple couch by yourself, you bite your thumb as you become lost in your thoughts. Your foot tapped the floor in a steady, but quick way, causing an echo to spread in the large room.
Approaching you silently, Kaufmo sits alongside you, his arm leaning against the couch as he takes a deep breath in.
“What’s troubling you?” You hear his deep voice penetrate through your wall of thoughts.
Taking a halt from your actions, you hesitate in movement, whether you should relax or remain in the tense state you’ve been in for the past hour.
“I–I feel like… I’ve screwed up by just being here.”
Kaufmo raises a brow at your pensive posture. He chuckled, “That could apply to anyone here in different ways, or similar ones. What’s yours in specific?”
You shake your head at yourself. “It’s just… I–I think something's going on with Jax and Ribbit a–and… somehow, it’s my fault.” Your head sinks.
Taking in your response, he hums. “What makes you think that?”
You throw your hands up into your sides. “I mean, you’ve seen them, and you know with you being closer to them, I’m sure you’ve taken notice of how… far apart they are now versus back then.”
Kaufmo nods stiffly. “I… I have.”
“Ribbit won’t even talk to me anymore when I approach her; she either immediately walks away, ignoring me, or looks at me with so much… resentment.”
The clown lays his hand between the two of you, his expression changing from feigning tranquility to finally showing the anxiousness that he’d been hiding away.
“Ribbits has been hiding away in her room as of late. And anytime they’re not, they just seem so lost. She has this expression on her face every time she looks at Jax.” His hands graze his face.
Your head turns to him. “I’ve seen it, too.”
He turns to you. “A–and Jax, just… ignores it all.”
A silence falls upon the two of you.
“I… I think– no, it’s not your fault.”
Your eyes peer down. “Then why does Ribbit–?”
Kaufmo places a gloved hand on the side of your shoulder. “Listen, I have my guesses as to what may be happening, but I can’t say it’s all for sure, or that I should even speak on my assumptions. It could all only lead to more unhelpful misunderstandings.”
He gives you a half-hearted smile.
“But I know it’s not your fault. Even if they’re my closest friends… I think I know them enough to say it’s truly between them.”
You smile suddenly back at him, holding onto his stretched arm. “Thanks, Kaufmo. I just… I just really wish Ribbit would speak to me again.” You let go of him as he removes his hand. “Every time I try to ask Jax, he becomes agitated sometimes… And it feels like he warns me from prying.”
You shook your head. “No, maybe that’s the wrong word.” You shift away, letting out a nervous laugh. “I… mostly miss Ribbit. I thought we were getting close.”
Kaufmo shrugs. “I don’t know what to tell you, unfortunately. I think Ragatha would be better at advising you.” He giggles, standing up and waving at you as he walks away.
Standing up, you finally decide to give a more serious attempt at speaking to Ribbit. Walking towards the dorms, you pass faces, some known, some not. The red ‘X’ that marked their faces had reminded you of the possibility that any one of your friends could be next, or perhaps, even yourself. It was a depressing thought that you pushed into the back of your mind. Stopping in your tracks in front of the door you were searching for, your hand wavers on knocking.
“Grow up.” You whisper to yourself.
Moving your fist back and forth, you await an answer.
The door creaks, slightly opening enough to see the person on the other side of the door.
Their face distorts into a frown when seeing you.
Jumping from the sound, you turn around, seeing Jax walk over to the couch, sprawling his long self over it.
His attitude is tipping all over the floor.
Taking quick steps towards the kitchen, you place the bag of baked goods on the table, your fingers tracing the edges of it before walking over to the top cupboards and grabbing a cup. Your teeth began to grind, your own canines almost biting into the flesh of your mouth. Twisting the cold water faucet, you fill your cup halfway, and take a swig, pouring all the liquid down to cool yourself before you act instead of thinking.
Why was this so aggravating?
He was just standing, didn’t even ruin the interaction, which would’ve resulted in a mess. Revealing himself and revealing that you are nothing but a liar, who hides away in their home, acting as though life had always been normal.
You are with someone who literally dedicated his time to fucking running your days in the circus. No, not just yours but theirs. Same guy who threw Ragatha into an air fryer, same guy who would intensely bully Gangle, same guy who would belittle Zooble’s identity, same guy who would antagonize Pomni when accountability was in talks.
Same guy who blamed you for Ribbits abstraction.
You gasp for air as the thought sped into your mind.
“W–why was it my fault?” You question yourself.
“What?” Jax hears you, admittedly wanting to ignore you, but finding it difficult not to want any sort of attention that is yours.
He turns to face behind himself, eyeing you from the living room.
Your memory can only dig so far.
His eyes begin squinting as he sees your form begin to falter.
Flashbacks come and go, but it’s not like you can study them in your mind.
Standing up and throwing the control remote aside, the curly-haired male begins walking closer to you.
Placing a palm on your temple, a headache consumes you as you try to dig deep into your brain for the reason. But for some reason, every time you put in an effort to recall, there’s an electric, hot flash that starts from your head to your entire body, a blockage that punishes you for seeking autonomy of your own memories. You lean over the sink, your hand holding onto the edge of it as you grow weaker, the other reaching for the cup of water again, only to push it onto the floor, water spilling everywhere.
Before your consciousness went away, you felt arms embrace your cold body.

a/n: Next chapter may reveal a lot. MUAHAHAHA. Don't worry, Jax isn't the only toxic one in this relationship. Debating if it should be written in a different point of view that isn't the readers and Jax's? ( ˶O 〰 O˵ ) -?! wouldn't that be interesting? but I'll see what I decide on.
