izzy spends their whole life leaping to defend stede and stede spends their whole life holding izzy back and calming him down. izzy will throw down with anyone for stede, even the legendary blackbeard. my idea for this au is that stede and izzy meet as children, and when stede goes to boarding school, izzy apprentices under a blacksmith. eventually stede marries mary (but he’s honest with her and they end up friends), izzy opens his own forge, meets doug through a local artist guild and introduces him to mary, and they’re all content enough. but of course, stede and izzy run off to be pirates (stede carries a sword forged by izzy and izzy’s weapon of choice is a sledgehammer) and then eventually it becomes steddyhands

Izzy: *resigned nodding* Yeah, we are.
