when he came to america to follow aomine’s dreams, ( it’s always aomine’s dreams. ) he didn’t expect he’d be the one going to the parties with aomine. he’s never been big on crowds, or drinking ( that much ) and somehow what parties he did go to, always tended to make him somewhat uncomfortable. him, huddled into a corner, sipping on his drink, wide-eyes watching aomine, ( the star of the show -- if basketball could be considered a show ) with the gut feeling of he’s not good enough. aomine fits into the world, he looks right at place in it too. sakurai, well he’s just luggage, an add-on for aomine. he blinks, fingers tightening around the pen that he’s holding and he hasn’t really gotten that much drawing in lately, ( which, he expected too ) and lets out a breath of air. “aomine-kun, are you sure you want me there, i don’t really fit in with the other’s you know.”

these phone calls had almost become a regular part of their routine. he doesn’t know when it started, or even how it started, but aomine’s voice had began to calm him down enough to where he can focus on his art and come up with a good dialogue for his stories. he’s at his desk, with the small little lamp plugged in so his parent’s won’t notice that he’s awake, his baby pink phone cradled between his ear and shoulder and eyes focused on the piece of art in front of him. doe-eyes dart to his door, and contemplate his parent’s answer, before biting on his lip. aomine needs him and aomine never needs him. he nods, and then realises that he hasn’t spoken his answer and aomine’s waiting on one. “sorry, sorry !” an old habit before he rushes to finish his statement before aomine thinks he was saying no. “sure! just come through my window like you did last time.” sorry mom, dad -- aomine is more important to him than him potentially getting into trouble.

me, thru tears: daiki is so good

AT FIRST his parent’s didn’t care for him because they saw their son ?? cooking so much for the other that they figured that maybe he was bullying sakurai into doing it ! but then when he explained that no, he was doing it because he wanted to and no other reason, his parents believed him since sakurai doesn’t really lie to them about anything. when they first meet him, ( both of his parents are short. his mom is 5′0″ and his dad is 5′10″. ) they were kind of in awe because this giant ass kid. his mom laughed and waved off something that aomine had said before giving him fresh baked goods :) and his dad took him into the room where he draws and then aomine was all ‘oh no wonder sakurai is good at these things it’s bc you are’ type of thought process maybe smh idk i don’t write him. his mom ?? is scary though when she gets REALLY mad, and aomine witnessed it one day because she, in all her glory, was standing there and telling off a man about twice her size -- and then she just flipped to being sweet and nice as soon as she saw aomine. anyways, tldr ; his parents love aomine.

sakurai’s mom works in a bakery, ( which gives him access to free sweets ) and his dad draws manga. they’re both very opened minded parents who are concerned about their son and his constant need to apologize for anything. when he starts wearing dresses and skirts and stereotypical ‘female’ clothing, after college, they are on board because they see how happy it makes him and how he doesn’t apologize as much as he use too. as it is, he just likes to make and wear pretty clothing and is comfortable with either he/she pronouns because he’s pretty fluid. however, i am still going to use he pronouns for him as he claims that he is a boy, but he doesn’t really care otherwise. he’s aomine biggest’s cheerleader, so when the other goes to america, he’s going with him ! to cheer him on ! especially since he doesn’t know what he wants to do yet, so he figures maybe some time in america will help him. instead, he ends up basically taking care of the house ( this is exclusive with @daichansux tho. ) he apologizes too much because a ) he’s not fully comfortable with himself as a person because his hobbies ?? are not normal for most ‘men’ and i think that he may have at one time or another maybe have been bullied for it ? maybe in middle school, which really, was the start of his all ‘i’m better than you, you’re below me’ type of personality switch with his hobbies.

13 Reasons to Love Sakurai Ryou

His nickname is Kamikaze Captain. How cool is that.

At 175 cm (5’ 9”), he weighs only 59 kg (130 lbs) which gives him the lowest BMI of all the players. He is also shorter than other shooting guards. Protect him at all costs.

His motto is “Don’t do bad things that have been done to you to others.” An actual angel.

He absolutely hates losing and he gets annoyed at the mere mention of Hyuuga. His teammates even tease him about it.

His hobby is reading and drawing manga. When he geeks out, Aomine is pretty impressed and excited so Sakurai promises to draw a basketball manga for him. [x]

During his “girls talk” with Momoi at the festival, it turns out that he took home ec in middle school and knows how to make a yukata. [x]

Nobunaga Shimazaki (“Zakki” or “Noburin” to fans) is getting really popular now thanks to his role as Haruka Nanase in Free!, but would you believe me if I said I started liking him after hearing him cover for Kensho Ono (Tetsuya Kuroko) on KuroRaji first? This is a clip from KuroRaji #51, originally aired on March 23, 2013, where he talks with Yuuki Ono (Taiga Kagami) about the character he voices in Kurobas, Ryou Sakurai:

Zakki: Kuroko’s Basketball is a work that I have a lot of fond memories about so I’m really happy to be on the radio show . Onoyuu: Memories… could you talk about some of those? Onoyuu: I originally liked Touou when I first read the manga— Touou was my favorite high school team, so I thought “Oh! I’m in Touou!”… also, I spent a lot of time worrying about how to create my performance as Ryou Sakurai… memories of that time left a deep impression on me. Onoyuu: So you were familiar with Kuroko [the manga] beforehand? Zakki: Yeah, I read it in Jump. Onoyuu: And you liked Touou… Zakki: Yes, the school I like the most is Touou. Aomine’s… how do you say…I really like the “This guy’s Number 1!” feeling that he gives off. Onoyuu: He definitely acts unreasonably*, isn’t he? Zakki: Right? Aomine-san is cool! Onoyuu: Is that so… Zakki: He totally is! Onoyuu: You mentioned “creating your performance” earlier… what parts were you really concerned about? Zakki: When I was investigating Sakurai… isn’t he a character when you first look at him you think, “oh, he’s cute”? In Kuroko’s Basketball, he’s a rare character with cute attributes on the surface. He likes making boxed lunches and going shopping… he’s that kind of character, but if you really, really look closely at him, he’s over 170cm tall— Onoyuu: He’s taller than you’d think, right? Zakki: Yes! And he’s a first-year starting member in that Touou Academy, and he really hates to lose… But just because he looks cute and likes shopping… I thought I should not perform him as “cute” just because he apologizes and kind of frantically spins his wheels around. Onoyuu: That’s exactly what I wanted to ask today… with Ryou Sakurai, he apologizes a lot and the way he’s drawn gives off a cute impression, but the way Noburin performs Sakurai, he gives the feeling that during the flow of the matches, he’s truly apologizing with all his might. Zakki: Yes, yes!! I’m happy that I was able to convey those kinds of feelings!! Onoyuu: How did you create that kind of feeling? What kind of technique…? Zakki: Thank you very much! Well, firstly, he’s definitely a natural airhead to the core; the actions you see him taking are honest, and he’s not the type of person to put on pretenses**, and I decided earlier on to not perform him as if he were acting cute, so I thought I should act as if I’m truly apologizing. Ryou also apologizes in the midst of a game. In the middle of a heated Kuroko’s Basketball match, if he cutely said “I’m sorry!,” I definitely wouldn’t forgive him!! Also, he’s really loved by Aomine and everyone, don’t you think? He’s something like an underclassman you want to treat nicely… he’s not putting on a front, he apologizes with his might so it’s kind of like an underclassmen to whom you’d say “you’re kind of annoying but I get it, I get it, you’re trying your hardest”. So here, I thought, I should perform straight, without pretending to be cutesy, determinedly putting in his best effort… if I could bring out a Ryou Sakurai that’s just like that, or at least be somewhat aware of those things while performing as him. Well, if you watch the actual thing, there isn’t a single scene where he’s drawn “cutely”, so I thought “oh good, the anime staff kept the same things in mind that I did,” and I was really happy. Onoyuu: So it’s like that, huh? His “Quick Release” and “I’m sorry!!”, without putting on a cute front… so that’s how you created your character. Zakki: Yes, exactly. I’m really happy you were able to feel some of that through my performance. Onoyuu: No, I’m really glad you answered all of that! Thank you! Zakki: Thank you!!

*tbh it sounds like onoyuu is saying おじゃぶり here to me, which makes absolutely no sense in context. The translation I use here would be if he said むちゃぶり which makes slightly more sense… any clarification would be much appreciated. スミマセン！ **the word Zakki uses here is ぶりっ子, which is slang for someone who intentionally acts a certain way to appeal to others (i.e. a girl that acts cutely or “pure” to look attractive to guys) - it’s usually implied that they act that way in order to manipulate others.

During the rest of the show, Zakki also talks a little bit about himself - how he got his first name (his great-grandmother asked a clairvoyant person to name him) and how he got into the seiyuu industry (when he was in elementary school, he was a really big fan of Hikaru Midorikawa’s performance as Heero Yuy in Gundam Wing), among other things, so it’s worth listening to the entire episode if you’re a Zakki fan.

he had been sitting down, eating his lunch for a good twenty minutes before aomine makes his move. by that point his blue lunch box and hankercif was already folded back up and pulled away and he was in the midst of pulling out a sketchbook and pencils when there’s weight suddenly in his lap.freezing, hand still in his bag, eyes move to look down at his lap where aomine’s made himself comfortable. ah. okay then. he’s sure he can work with this. his heart flutters and lashes bat as he looks down curiously upon the other. “aomine-san, are you that tired?” when he doesn’t receive a response, he lets out a soft sigh, “guess so.” before he ( assumingly thinks the other is asleep ) starts to run his hand through aomine’s hair. it’s soft and it’s not fair, but he’s quiet and everything is quiet and sakurai, looks up at the sky.
