Happy Valentine’s Day to Taivan ིྀ
i love my gay moms
I’d like to talk about Sammy’s drawings! Particularly this one!
This looks like Other Tai with Van! The redhead has to be Van.
Dark hair could be Man With No Eyes but that heart!
How and when could Sammy have seen Van?
Taivan is hugely underappreciated within the yellowjackets fandom.
Like don't get me wrong, I love jackieshauna and lottielee and mistynat as much as the next person. However for a canon lesbian relationship with absurd depth, Taivan is so ignored.
It's ignored in a specific way too, it's not outright dismissed but it's pushed to the side in favour of other ships ykwim? Like they're always background pairings in discussions and people dismiss the depth they have-
Like, idk. It feels like a lot of people just see Taivan as "haha lesbians, only ones who have their shit together, anyway so-" and that's it. They don't care about the intricacies, the fact that it took them being stranded in the goddamn wilderness for them to actually feel safe enough to be accepted- or about what happens after that when they go back and the real world isn't different, isn't accepting.
Hell you have the clear obvious love they hold for each other but express in totally different ways, god, I mean Taissa literally cuts Vans body open and eats her heart because she loves her that much DESPITE knowing how much Van would have hated her for it.
They love each other but they're also so fucking selfish and to a certain extent I think they were doomed from the start, before the crash or anything.
Also, part of me suspects that they are ignored because Taissa isn't white? Idk. I have no evidence for that but it's just vibes.
Also also, Vans character is severely underdeveloped in a lot of ways and I fear the show writers have kinda just turned her into "comic relief lesbian" a bit but hopefully we get more on her in S4 (especially post rescue because oml.)

YELLOWJACKETS, 2x07 "Burial"
The love of my life is gone, and I can't just call her and say I'm sorry and have her come back. She's gone forever.
So yes, Monique, that is something I do regret. I regret every second I didn't spend with her. I regret every stupid thing I did that caused her an ounce of pain.
I should have chased her down the street the day she left me. I should have begged her to stay. I should have apologized and sent roses and stood on top of the Hollywood sign and shouted, I'm in love with Celia St. James!' and let them crucify me for it. That's what I should have done.
And now that I don't have her, and I have more money than I could ever use in this lifetime, and my name is cemented in Hollywood history, and I know how hollow it is, I am kicking myself for every single second I chose it over loving her proudly.
yesterday I made a comment on twt about how Lottie's death is getting easier on me over time, while Van's death is becoming more difficult for me. oomf disagreed (which is totally valid), and I decided to turn my response to her into a tumblr post.
it might also be helpful to add context to this by reading this post I made about Lottie's death, if you're interested.
let's start with this: I really think Lottie wanted to die.
(I also still think-- when she asked the adults to pick a cup of poison in the adult tl-- she knew which cup had the poison and was hoping they'd let her go first)
I think, in many ways, she was always ready for it to be her. even when the first hunt happened, when she was dying in the attic due to the beating Shauna gave her, she was disappointed that they'd hunted Nat and allowed Javi to die instead of just letting her die instead.
but, beyond that... what makes her death easier to take over time is the fact that no one really mourned her. when Misty announced to the others that Lottie was dead, no one even cried.
when Van died, on the other hand...
Tai was devastated 😭
was Lottie's death a little rushed? did it lack the build up some of us would have preferred? oh, absolutely.
but the only people mourning her are us-- the fans. there's no one left in the narrative who honestly cares. even Lisa seemed to care more about Nat's death than Lottie's.
Tai, meanwhile, will be affected by this for the entirety of the final season. it will drive all her actions. it will probably drive her into killing (most likely Mel, but... she might even take a stab at Shauna, who used to be one of her best friends).
not to mention, as I said in that other post, Lottie was killed by the person who should have killed her. it might have been rushed, but it felt right. also not to mention my theory that Lottie probably even saw a vision of her death 25 years earlier.
but Van was killed because she ultimately could not bring herself to murder Mel. she died, in effect, because she's too compassionate. and don't forget how sad she was when Mari died. or how she talked Travis into eating his brother-- not because she was thrilled about cannibalism-- but because she cared enough about Travis to try and help him survive.
I'm not saying Van is perfect. no one on this show is perfect. but, for as much as people talk about Nat being the "moral compass", I think Van might have actually had the most heart out of all of them.
please don't get me wrong. I'm still going to miss adult Lottie. I'm going to miss Simone Kessell's amazing performance. TRUST.
but I grieve Van much more these days, because I know how it's going to affect Tai. and those bastards (aka our sick and twisted showrunners) might even make us watch the post-rescue taivan breakup just to stick the knife in and twist it a little harder.
will I stand up and say "absolute cinema"? yes.
but will I cry buckets while I do it? also yes.
I've already grieved Lottie. that's what this all boils down to. but when I look ahead to the final season, I know this show is not done making me grieve Van, and that's why her death is getting harder over time.
I was rewatching and I couldn’t stop thinking about this.
I was thinking about how Simone reminds Tai throughout the season about how she was a moral person who played by the rules. How her voters see her as a role model. And even when they argued she said
“This is not the woman I married!”
But the Tai we know from the teen timeline has constantly used rage and fear to sway people.
She appeals to their fear of losing nationals to justify freezing out Allie
She appeals to their fear of dying to get them to agree with her on the lake
She appeals to their fears of starvation to get them to go on the trip to find help
She appeals to their anger, fear and betrayal to kill Coach Ben
She appeals to their fear of jail time and public scrutiny to keep them in the wilderness
She appeals to Van’s fears of dying to rig the cards
So it is kind of interesting how it was her who had walked into this race with the intention of playing fair.
Unlike Melissa or Shauna, her relationship with Simone is completely divorced from the wilderness. Unlike the other survivors, Tai has went out of her way to be known for things other than being a flight 2525 survivor. Which is probably why she sent Jessica Roberts after everyone.
It’d be really interesting to see how this relationship started.
I also think that Tai had a much easier and harder time because she had a supportive family. It set her apart from the others, but also alienated her on both sides. She was too normal for the others, who had broken families and dead friends, but too weird for normal people, like her college friends and Simone, who would never understand her
