I used to try to be everything for everyone all the time, doing all the things I could to help others and giving of myself until there was nothing left..
That’s just who I am and how I’m wired.
I’ll always give my all to the people in my life and be there for them for whatever they need.
I find out along the way, though, I was giving of myself until there wasn’t anything left..
And that’s no good for anyone, especially me.
I couldn’t give from an empty tank, and that’s what I was trying to do.
I pushed myself so hard and for so long, that I had spent all I had for the people I cared about..
And I’ll never change that about myself.
But, after collapsing from exhaustion, I realIzed I was slowly killing myself in the process..
And that doesn’t help anyone.
It was hard for me to step back, take a deep breath and rest.
I felt guilty for taking a break and collecting myself..
In the back of my mind, there was always this voice whispering that I was failing, I was being selfish, I wasn’t doing enough.
Only, I knew I wasn’t, so I had to learn how to turn off the whispers of guilt that tried to weigh me down.
I need time to do the things that fill my heart with joy and my soul with purpose.
Maybe it’s rest, maybe it’s a good book, maybe it’s doing nothing for an afternoon.
Instead of trying to survive the world on an empty tank, I took the time I needed to rest and heal..
No longer was I merely making it through my days, I was conquering them.
I wasn’t a survivor any more..I became a warrior.
Just that one little change transformed my reality.
Now, when I arise refreshed at the dawn of a new day, I don’t dread trying to figure out how I’m going to make it..
No, I charge into my days and do what needs to be done..with a smile on my face and a pep in my step.
It hasn’t been easy learning to take me time, but now I know I have to..
For myself, my loved ones and the people in my life that need me to be 100%..
Most of all for me to be happy.
No matter what life throws at me or the challenges of my day, I know I can handle anything.
I’m no longer surviving, I’m taking back my life and finding my purpose again.
I look back and wonder how I ever made it before and smile.
It’s not about “if” anymore..
No, now, it’s about when.
