â Nice job breaking it, hero. â [noyesterdaysontheroad]
âNot my fault, genius,â Qaz quipped, holding his hands up. Â âI didnât hardly touch it.â

âSomething a little dangerous,â Jackie admitted. âBut I managed it before, back when I was like, nineteen?â
She stood, feeling the need to pace as she worked through what she was thinking. âThe kind of rival we want is someone a little easier to get away from, likes to brag, but who wonât want to admit that theyâve screwed up. We could make it look like you led me right into a trap, then give them the slip and make it look like Iâm dead.â
âOkayâand where would this rival come in?â
âTheyâre the trap.â Jackieâs nerves showed through her smile. âWe play them in order to play the Blackstones and leave this whole thing behind us. Thatâs why itâs got to be someone who likes to gloat: someone who wouldnât pass up an opportunity to tell the Blackstones theyâd gotten hold of their new associate, and isnât that a shame?â
Qaz straightened up, frowning thoughtfully. "A possibilityâwhat's tricky is they tend not to pay much mind to possible rivals, even the ones who gloat, not unlessâ"
He paused, blinked. "Unless their principles are in question." Then he looked to Jackie. "Might I ask how your previous shot at this unfolded?"
