“A fae flew into my office and touched my relics, so I caught it and pinned it to the board amongst its kind”
— Someone, named Rerir, probably.
Still debating whether I should place it this way or sideways.
Teach me how to use lighting, I’m not doing a good job here. Also the shadows are killing me. I accept some critique on this piece. (pretty please)
Don’t have a ton of lighting practice bc I have other things to do after coloring a piece but here’s sorta how I would go abt shading
Red is light, blue is shadow
Source of light is very important, seems to be the window to the left. As the window presumably doesn’t end where the end of the canvas does, i gave a bit more light shining thru , but only a bit. Even if just a sketch, knowing the environment not shown on the page can be very helpful. Continuing this, would the light from the window stop just around Flins, or would it cast light further across the room?
The light would be hitting closest to where the window would be, and there’s scarce shading in that area. On Flins legs, they are both shaded as if the light is coming from the top right I believe, which I don’t think is the case? Multiple light sources I don’t even usually mess with it’s a headache.
The (bottom? Lower?) thigh would be partially covered by the top thigh, so it’d have shading provided, working under the assumption that the ONLY light is from the window, and it is dark otherwise. Shadows tend to be cooler in color than light, so I’d personally make the color composition really cold, with Flins being really shiny to emphasize him, as moonlight is also cool-toned so it devolves into “light cool” and “dark cool” lol
I was being picky with the pins, they generally have the right(ish) direction of the light spot, but think of light as a line coming from the source, that’s where the dot would be
I may have overemphasized his chest area? Uh take it with a grain of salt
And vertical feels better, mainly bc of perspective reasons I can know but not teach. How it is currently emphasizes Flins more than the table somehow. Idrk sorry <:)
This is an amazing piece! The posing is dynamic, the outfit isn’t overwhelming, his face is so distraught, and the anatomy is so well done for such a hard pose! I like the little fish bone it’s cute!
Reworked as advised and it genuinely looks way better ✨ I’m proud of myself for finishing a piece for once! Thank you for your help!
