I hate driving because you have to do everything perfectly as fast as possible or everyone around you will announce their displeasure with airhorns
oh and if you mess up you die and kill a bunch of people at the same time
LITERALLY like disarming a bomb except thereâs a peanut gallery watching you and theyâve each got an airhorn and also another bomb
#this sounds like something John mulaney would sayÂ
This is one of the nicest compliments Iâve gotten about my writing, and Iâve been reading this post in his syntax ever since I read your tag

funniest thing in the lord of the rings is how no one can kill gollum because whenever they get close they're like "oh my god he's so pathetic and ugly i can't bear to fucking look at him. jesus christ." so they just imprison him and then he slips through the fucking bars like a looney tunes character. and this happens multiple times.

The Natural Conclusion of Things
Now, I wasnât exactly looking for a blatant confirmation of a romantic relationship between Sherlock and John, but it seemed logical for it to appear, particularly after The Lying Detective.Â
If you put a rifle on the wall in scene 1, it has to get fired before the end of the story. Announcing that John and Sherlock both need a romantic connection in The Lying Detective is one such rifle.
I wasnât expecting it to be obvious, and itâs not, not entirely, but yeah, itâs there.Â
This episode isnât about Sherlock and John and a change in their relationship, to be clear. Itâs about why Sherlock is what he is. But slid in there is the assumption that Sherlock and John are back together, the way they havenât been since The Reichenbach Fall, but this time with eyes wide open. Theyâre together and talking this time, thatâs where we left them with The Lying Detective. They are finally, finally talking to each other about their feelings in a way they never did before. This story doesnât address those steps directly, it certainly addresses them obliquely.
First: Mycroft wants to talk about their sister alone because âItâs family.â John stays in the conversation because Sherlock wants him there for the same reason. Sherlock considers John family. John considers himself family as well; they are in agreement about it, and John doesnât offer to go, or move to step away. On its own, thatâs a lovely sentiment shared between them, but what it suggests is that John is not only his friend. Thatâs nice, but only the first part of why I think theyâve moved their relationship to a new place.
Second: Eurus hears Sherlock play one note on his violin and knows that heâs had sex. Thatâs news! Whoâs Sherlock having sex with? Eurus assumes itâs a woman. Thatâs the same kind of mistake Sherlock made in  A Study in Pink. But who else would it be? Itâs John.
Third: when John finds another DVD left by Mary, he doesnât watch it alone. Sherlock needs come over to watch it with him. Sherlock is fully engaged in Johnâs emotional life at this point, just as John is fully engaged in Sherlockâs, family and all.
Most of this story is game face time, so other than a shot of them co-parenting, and them physically putting their lives back together at the end, there isnât time for them to show much more. Except thatâs sort of the point: they are working as a unit through this whole story, a truly complete unit. They are at peace with each other, they trust each other, they know each other. There is not a flicker of doubt left about each other.
Nothing will ever come between them again.

Sherlock and John,
Iâm so, so sorry about what happened to you.
I know you couldnât control it - someone else has got the keys to 221B for a while, as theyâre so utterly fond of saying - and you were merely props in a game of privileged boyhood whimsy.
You deserve better than that.
This series we could barely recognise you at times and only saw glimpses of you in others. Your relationship, your friendship, your love for each other was dimmed in favour of rugs too quickly set up beneath our feet before being pulled in fits of righteous self-indulgence. The depths of you, prodded so gently before, were left to sour in service to thin plotting and tonal missteps, of rushed redemption arcs and easy jokes rather than clever growth.
You deserve better than that.
Luckily, youâve gotten better too.
We have been here - and we still are here - to right these wrongs. We have done and we will do; we will celebrate your love: talk about it, write about it, sing about it, draw it, investigate it, confirm it, champion it.
And someday, if weâre very very lucky, fund it.
But for now, all we can do is point out where others have gone wrong. Point out the injustices done to storytelling, the injustices done to those whoâve loved you these many years, and the injustices done to the little seeds of truth embedded in the parchment that first captured who you both Really Are over 130 years ago.
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, we will find you again beneath our fingers. See you at the tips of our pens.
Love,
Your Fans
