Yo, Nagisa.
Sharksplay:
❝It’s your birthday, ne?❞
Tossing the younger a rather plush-feeling present covered with blue gift wrap decorated with snowflakes, he pushed his hands down his pockets to casually greet the blond more properly.
❝You might have a ton of these already, though… one more wouldn’t hurt, right?❞
“Eeh? Rin-chan -- “
The incoming present takes Nagisa by surprise, although he manages to catch it without fumbling. It feels soft even through the wrapping paper, and he squeezes experimentally, already knowing what it might be.
It’s without hesitation that he peels the paper away, letting it carelessly fall to the floor: he wasn’t a stranger to plush toys, least of all penguin plush toys, but his eyes still widen all the same, his expression bright.
“I don’t have one like this,” he breathes, shifting to hug the penguin closer, squishing it against his chest. This one’s eyes are the biggest he’s ever seen -- and he knows where the character is from, has seen an episode or two (or twelve).
“Rin-chan, this present is amazing!! I love it, it doesn’t matter if I have others,” he steps closer, peering up at the redhead from overtop of his gift, almost stubborn in his insistence. A part of him knows that the shark is only speaking out of embarrassment, but he can’t help commenting anyway; it seems important, somehow. Meaningful.
“As long as it’s from Rin-chan, it automatically becomes special, anyways!”
His eyes crinkle as he smiles up at his friend, pressing the stuffed penguin between them; he can’t quite wrap his arms around the other in a hug like this, but he tries anyways, his fingertips just grazing the small of the other’s back.
It wasn’t something he would say aloud, at least not right now, but after all their years of friendship a present wasn’t something required: as much as he appreciates this, Rin’s friendship was enough.
