12. Ruin The Friendship
i mean i rlly do like this one truly, it's just the least entertaining out of all the songs on tloas for me. i do enjoy the storytelling and i think it's one of the times where taylor was definitely having a good pen game on this album
how i wish that taylor did a braggy song about how rich she was to stick it to the haters, but ofc she wouldn't do that. instead we get a love song where the only true wish list is a certain someone. the settled down version has lovely violins.
used to be my least fav but over time this song is just so catchy. the clarinet is what i live for.
and if i said this is the most overrated song on this album.... for me it's good and definitely a good single choice but pales in comparison to other songs. the message is cute, the music video is amazing, and the song reminds me of christmas. but it feels rather boring.
lorddddd for a track 5 why was her pen game here so cringe? i honestly consider this overhated and was a huge defender of it against the "she's racist cause she uses savage". but even i had to say hearing taylor say "i'm not a bad bitch and this isn't savage" was so fucking out of pocket.
bombastic lead single that perfectly started the era, even if critics weren't so sure of this album. i loved the many, many showgirl outfits in the music video. again, had to defend my girl after she was called defending the patriarchy (can we let women consider men as their saviors and leave it to be ok for once?).
okay dramatic taylor. this song reminds me of reputation a lot lowkey. i wish this song was more like the cabaret version, with violins, harps, and even more dramatic pianos and organs. someone take notes from kylie minogue's abbey road sessions!
another reputation-esque song, this is the best-written song on the album. love the mafia vibes from this, and i'd kill to see taylor perform this in full mafia get up (she always kills in a suit). let this be the next single and have a music video!!!
oooh rock taylor is reviving!!!! i've always wanted more rock from taylor and this is another crumb to add to my collection. idrc abt who this song is abt, i just want a sassy diss track. i do wish taylor went all out for this though. there's a rock version on youtube from matt's rock versions that's absolutely banging.
say whatchu wanna say but this is such a bop. one of the most vibrant, lively, and exciting songs on the album and quite possibly the most showgirl-esque one on here after title track. i do think sabrina had a hand in making this...
MY REPUTATION IS ALIVE AND WELL! a distant cousin to i did something bad, it has creepy and dark synths and biting, venomous vocals, painting taylor as the leader of an underworld where her friends reign beside her. take us to hell, taylor!
i love the contrast between sabrina and taylor's vocals, and the BRIDGEEEEEE. the greatest showman is calling to take back one of its songs. and ending with actual eras tour audio??? i'm sobbing.
call it what you want but this is an overhated masterpiece of a pop album. ik it's not revolutionary, but it's still a fun listen from start to finish with catchy tunes. i feel like the marketing definitely overshadowed the actual content, and taylor was definitely misleading with all those cabaret photos and getting no jazzy songs on it anyway. but i have to forgive her for giving us some bops.
