Another one-shot thing? Not linked to ‘Racing for Ghoulies’ love yous❤️❤️❤️
I brushed my hair from my face with nervous eyes. It looked a little run down but I knew better than to judge by looks. I couldn't underestimate the people in there either. I had seen the serpent jackets many of them wore and the other people I had seen seemed to all know each other and I got here early in the morning so the fact that so many people were here was surprising.
I'd be the new kid. As soon as I walked in there I'd be fish-bait if it was anything like my last school. Evolve or die. I was sold. I was going to stay on my own. I'd stay low as I could. I'd stay kind though. I walked into the school and picked up my locker number. I looked at it and nodded. I gave the desk lady a grateful nod and small smile before turning and going to figure the place out.
My eyes flicked across the room making sure I could take in as much of the school as I could. Room numbers. How the classes were set out. It seemed pretty simple
"Oi, new girl!" A voice called. I sighed. I turned around. It was strange to be called out so soon. A boy in a serpent jacket was standing there walking towards me. He had black hair that was faded on both sides. I blinked and gave him a smile.
"What can I do for you?" I asked tilting my head sweetly. His eyes widened at my polite behaviour. He was frozen like he didn't know what to do. He turned around and looked at the group that was watching us intently.
I looked over his shoulder exaggerating how far I needed to lean and gave a small, kind wave and smile. I knew I had threw them off to an extent but I didn't know how. The group shrugged at the boy as if they also didn't know why he was here
"My name's Fangs" he greeted sticking out his hand at the group behind him practically facepalmed. I slipped my hand into his. I was guessing his parents hadn't actually named him Fangs so we were going off nicknames
"Nugget" I introduced kindly "thanks for introducing yourself, but I really must go. I still haven't really found my way around the school properly" I lied. Fangs eyes flickered to another group that walked past. Their eyes weren't on Fangs though, they were on me. As if they were waiting for Fangs to leave so they could swoop in. I turned around when Fangs grabbed my arm
"My friends and I can show you around" he said nervously. I hummed in confusion. I tilted my head. I did need to get to my locker so I could leave my bag
"Are you sure? I wouldn't want to bother you guys" I said lightly. Fangs stopped as if thinking it over but then waved it off. I'm guessing he wasn't about to leave me so he could ask permission
"I'm sure they won't mind" he chuckled, but I could hear the hope in his voice. He pulled me along to where his friends were sitting. I blinked, awkwardly shifting my eyes as they all just stared at me
"Hi" I greeted in a small voice. They pulled Fangs into a small huddle, leaving me out of it. They were muttering and I strained my ears while I watched them muttering
"I don't know what happened. I was meant to earn my stripes but then she just... I don't know" I heard Fangs whisper shout "then these Ghoulies gave her a look and I felt bad just leaving her to em" Fangs sighed. They were obviously going to leave me to perish. That much was clear. But I was gonna be fine.
My eyes flicked to the group then to my locker which wasn't far away. I shrugged. I doubted I'd have any trouble I couldn't handle with conversation. I walked to my locker and unlocked it without having to refer to the paper that still sat in my pocket.
I dumped my entire bag in the locker not bothering to unpack anything but a book and pencil. Before I could close my locker it was slammed shut for me. I looked behind me to the boy from the group of that was staring at me only a second ago. He was very tall and a little on the thin side.
He had longish, curly, dark brown hair on the top of his head with the sides cut a little bit shorter. He had a little bit of hair on his face and he also had deep, dark brown eyes. He was wearing a flannel shirt that was unbuttoned just enough that I could see his chest.
"Thanks" I said giving him a small smile. His eyebrows furrowed before his lips turned up into a grin. I felt a shiver run up my spine
"No worries, new girl" he said moving his hand so it was beside my head and he was hovering over me. I gave him a nervous smile "why don't you sit with us at recess?" He asked gesturing to a group
"Really? Would that be alright?" I asked hopefully "I wouldn't want to bother you" I muttered, the male simply hummed in confirmation a smirk turning up on his face
"Yeah, I'm positive you wouldn't be a bother, princess" he shrugged. I gave him a smile "name's Malachai" he added. I gave him a light smile
"I'm Nugget" I said with a smile. He looked at me perplexed before laughing. My face heated up and I played with my fingers
"Nugget?" He asked trying to regain his breath. I pouted and crossed my arms. I looked to the ground shuffling my feet
"It's a nickname" I defended. He gave me a raised eyebrow "people say it's because I'm 'small' and 'scrawny'. It just caught on" I said ducking my head
"I think it's cute" Malachai said giving me a charming grin. He left and I waved to him to which he surprisingly waved back. The tint on my cheeks remained as the group with Fangs rushed over
"What happened?" Fangs asked almost panicked. I hummed as I pointed at the boy and Fangs nodded
"I had a conversation with Malachai" I stated with a smile. Fangs's eye twitched
"Did he say anything else to you?" Fangs asked seriously. I hummed musing it over
"He said 'no worries, new girl' after I thanked him for closing my locker" I mentioned. Fangs sighed "he was nice... hey you called me 'new girl' too. Are you two friends?" I asked changing the subject slightly from me. Fangs shook his head
"Guys, can she sit with us?" Fangs asked the group behind him. They looked hesitant but hen Fangs squished my cheeks together and made me face them with a squashed face "look at her face" he said pleadingly. He was acting like an 8 year-old asking his parents if he could keep a stray puppy he found abandoned on the side-walk
"She can sit with us today, but when Sweet Pea is back you have to ask him" the female with pink streaks in her hair said reluctantly. Common passing the responsibility of making a decision on
"Oh, it's no problem!" I said interrupting "Malachai said I could sit with him" I said with a bright smile "he said I wouldn't be a bother" I said happily
"No, Cmon" Fangs groaned almost pleadingly. I bit my lip, nodding agreeing to join them for today and Fangs fist pumped the air. My eyes flicked to Malachai who was glaring at the group I was talking to
"Do you think Malachai will be offended that I'm not sitting with him" I asked my eyebrows furrowing. Fangs scoffed waving it off
"Nah. He'll be fine" Toni said linking arms with me. I gave a light smile and nodded. I was sure he wouldn't really care if I was there or not
At the end of school I said goodbye to Fangs, Toni and Harry with a smile. I paused mentally slapping myself remembering that I forgot something back in my locker. I did a 180 and walked back into school to get my bag. I walked through the creepily quiet halls to my locker.
I found my locker and smiled. I unlocked it and grabbed my back. Someone pulled the back of my collar and my eyes widened with a yelp. I was slammed onto my locker and the sight of two leather jackets with a familiar serpent sewn into the back made me look at them confused
"Look, it's the new girl who sat with us at lunch after guilt tripping Fangs" the one holding my collar growled. I squirmed "how come you get in so quick!?" He asked "it took me weeks to even sit with them but they talked to you the first day?" He asked angrily. I grabbed his wrist as his hand moved from my collar to my throat. I chocked slightly and tears pooled in my eyes
"I bet she's just using us to hide from the ghoulies" the other snarled "lets teach her the ghoulies aren't the ones she should be afraid of" he said with a smirk. The one holding my throat grinned lifting his fist. My head snapped to the side as his fist connected easily with my face before he threw me to the ground.
I grunted as I landed in the hard floor. A harsh kick was landed to my stomach and I cried out in pain. I curled up to protect my stomach and face but the kicks didn't stop. I cried out pleading them to stop with each kick
"What are you guys doing!?" A familiar voice shouted. The kicks finally came to a stop and scampering feet was the only sound I could hear beside my blood pumping through my body "shit, Nugget" Malachai said with a wince. I looked up at him my eyes flowing with tears.
He crouched beside me. I winced as I tried to sit up. I could practically feel my bruises forming over my arms and back. Malachai was glaring towards where the guys went. It was a burning hot glare that could cut through your soul
"Why were they doing that" he asked. I grunted and gave him a small shrug unable to lift my shoulders properly. He gave me a stern look and I sighed
"I forgot something so I came back to get it. Then they just came out of nowhere. They said that I was only sitting with them to hide from the 'ghoulies' and I somehow guilt tripped Fangs into letting me sit with them" I sighed. Malachai scoffed rolling his eyes
"You should've sat with me" He said with a grin. I gave a chuckle but silently agreed "let's get you up" he said. I went to stand up but before I could he scooped my into his arms. I was squished against his chest and my face warmed up "there we are" he said giving me a wink "I'll take you back to your place" he said with smirk as he looked into my wide eyes.
I could tell how easy it was to carry me as I could feel his muscles were hardly tensed. I gave him a smile before looking at my lap. My eyes flicked to him for a second
"Thank you" I muttered. He raised an eyebrow looking down at me "I didn't even sit with you after you offered but you still helped me" I sighed disappointed in myself. Malachai only smiled
"Couldn't just stand there as they beat up a princess" he said. He stopped and I looked over to see a motorcycle. I winced slightly "is it okay if we ride my steed?" He asked keeping with the princess theme. I hummed in fake thought and Malachai scoffed with a laugh
"Of course it's fine, Malachai" I said with a giggle. He put me on my feet. I winced as one of my feet hit the ground and I hopped slightly. Malachai gave me an apologetic look and hopped onto the bike. I grunted as I swung my leg over the bike. He grabbed the helmet and passed it to me over his shoulder. I plopped it onto my head I did up the straps as Malachai stepped started the bike
"Where do you live?" He asked. My eyes widened as if I just remembered he had no idea where I lived. I bit my lip
"Olin Avenue" I said. Malachai nodded "it's by the church" I said and Malachai chuckled
"I know where it is, princess. Hold onto me" Malachai ordered. I awkwardly put my hands on his shoulders. Malachai grabbed one of my hands and pulled me closer. I squeaked as I was pushed up against his back. He then wrapped my arm around his waist. I moved my other arm to his waist as well "good girl" he said looking over his shoulder to show me his smirk.
I pouted and turned so my face wasn't being squished in his back. He revved the bike and I tightened my hold on him, tightening my eyes closed. He chuckled and started riding. The wind whipped my face and at first it was uncomfortable but I slowly got accustomed to it.
I opened my eyes and I smiled at the sight of scenery of the school was flying by. My hold on Malachai loosened slightly as I examined it. It was bigger than I gave it credit for. As the school passed I spotted the church. We stopped next to the bank. Malachai turned into my street and I pointed at my house.
Malachai nodded showing he understood. He pulled up outside my house and I got off the motorbike with a lot of struggle. I smiled at the sight of the house. Malachai got off the bike and put down the foot-stand. I gave him a confused look until he put my arm around his shoulders
"Malachai, my house is right there. You don't have to-" I started. Malachai gave me a cheeky grin
"But I want to make sure you get to your house safely" he said. I sighed giving in and nodded. To be honest I think I did need a bit of help. I winced as my injured foot skipped along the concrete to support my weight a little bit more. Malachai knocked on the door and my mother opened the door. She gasped as she saw my condition
"Nugget" she said worry in her tone. She grabbed my face in her hands "are you okay?" She asked. She tilted my face to the side seeing the large bruise on my face "my poor baby. How did this happen?" she said tears filling her eyes. I sighed my shoulders sagging
"I'm fine, mom. Just a couple bullies" I assured gently. She looked to Malachai
"Thank you for helping my baby" she said to him "would you like to come inside for a drink?" She asked kindly. Malachai's eyes flicked to me before he shook his head with a smirk
"I'm fine" Malachai assured. My mom turned her attention to me again. Her eyebrows furrowed and a dark look fell onto her face making a shiver run up my spine
"You don't have to go to that school ever again if you don't want to" she said and I chuckled nervously
"No offence, Mrs Nugget" Malachai started and I let out a breathy chuckle "but I'll personally make sure nothing like this happens to her again" Malachai states. I looked at him in surprise. I had only known him for a day... no only a few minutes and he was already vowing to be my body guard? My eyes watered and I rubbed my eyes with a sniffle. Malachai looked down at me "Can I take her somewhere to lay down?" Malachai asked
"Of course. You're such a nice boy" my mother said smiling brightly at Malachai "and it's Ms Nugget" my mom said and my eyes flickered to the floor thinking of my father. I hoped I never saw him again.
Malachai helped me inside and I smiled. My eyes landed on a couch and I guessed Malachai saw it as well. He walked to it and I flopped onto the couch and winced. I gave a laugh
"Reminds me of the old days" I said lightly. Malachai looked at me and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. It looked like he wanted to ask but he didn't "Thanks, Malachai" I said genuinely. He sighed patting my hair and I smiled
"No worries, princess" he said and I rolled my eyes playfully "Are you going to sit with us at recess?" Malachai asked raising an eyebrow
"will the others mind?" I asked nervously. He shrugged nonchalantly. I bit my lip and his eyes flicked to the movement
"They'll have to put up with it" he stated "you're with me and I'm leader of them. What happened with the serpents won't happen with us" he said almost proudly. I gave him a bright smile
"Then I'll see you then" I agreed with a nod. He smirked giving me a wave "see you, Malachai!" I said waving ignoring the burning pain in my arm
"See ya, princess!" He shouted back. I giggled as he shut the door behind him. My mom came into the living room with a gentle smile on her face
"Are you really okay, baby?" My mom asked. I sighed and gave her a nod
"I promise I'm fine" I told her. She walked over to me and pressed a kiss to my forehead
"Alright. Do you want to stay home tomorrow?" She asked. I shook my head. She sighed and threw a thin blanket over me "most of our furniture is still in the moving van" she muttered I gave her a smile
"I love you, mom" I blurted. She looked at me and smiled. Mom sighed and gave my leg a pat
"I love you too" she said before walking away. I closed my eyes curling into a ball falling asleep easily
