'In this cemetery without tombs, but where their close relatives sleep their last sleeps, the women of the village have come to keep vigil until dawn in communion with them. When day breaks they will eat the offerings which they have brought for the deceased. No sadness hangs over this family rite which reunites the dead and the living. Moreover, the living man is death reprieved. He must renounce his temporal life, his nostalgia for the limboes of this world. He must prepare himself for death if he wishes to prepare himself for life; then he will be "like the angels".'
