my very risky rent-lowering post is that way too many people who are "pro paraphile recovery" are actually just pro conversion therapy, because they dont understand that "treatment" doesn't mean "not having icky thoughts that i don't like anymore" and like, this is a wider issue with the perception of the psyche industry in general, but i think it's especially poignant in this case because that would be literally describing, as previously mentioned, straight up conversion therapy.

actual treatment for non-offending paraphiles would look pretty much identical to how intrusive thoughts are treated. it would be about reducing the amount of influence unwanted thoughts have on your feelings, thoughts and actions. treatment for unwanted thoughts doesn't usually make you stop having them, it helps you be able to live with them. this is opposed to conversion therapy, which focuses on punishing the attraction with negative stimuli. and this is where, if i were writing a proper essay, would transition us into part 2, where i reveal that offending paraphiles often ARE subject to conversion therapy, including electric shock, hormonal castration, or even being told by doctors to sexually punish themselves when masturbating. to be honest though, that's a topic i don't really have the time to elaborate on, but i felt it would be remiss of me to not mention that this hypothetical Does happen, just rarely to non-offending paraphiles.

It's probably inevitable (even necessary) that the people who devote their lives to becoming as good as possible at some particular art or trade or w/e also develop a horrible outsized and self-congratulatory conception of how important and vital and fundamentally human it is. Doesn't make listening to them wax poetic about it in an interview any less insufferable though.
