"...I keep fucking up. I keep letting shit get away from me. I feel like I'm too...too..." Why was she saying any of this? It didn't matter. She let out a disgruntled noise and rolled her eyes.

"You want me to get involved in mortal affairs? Then that would cause divine destruction. Just because I'm involved in death does not mean that I take pleasure in watching creations die. That is more of Niveyr's doing. And the bias would happen. Imagine the controversy of favoring one group over the other. One could interpret it as being "God's chosen people". And that is not something that I'll ever get involved with. If I let my emotions run every decision then I would get nowhere. I have to think about long term."

"No, but you could start by ensuring the other gods maintain that same sense of neutrality. It's what I started doing." Hand on her hip. Now they were getting somewhere. "And of course you have to think about the long term, that's the point. If the gods are allowed to play with mortals like toys, then we're not shepherding them, we're destroying them."

"And what, pray-tell, would you suggest? You are clearly far more superior in wisdom as you say you judge gods and goddesses alike while also talking down to me as if I said souls were inferior. Never stated a soul needed to be a saint or perfect. Just a be a good person but also giving them multiple chances to prove such. So. . . Be more welcoming with opened arms to all souls?"

"You don't hold yourselves to those rules. I've seen it. People who did their best and didn't know any better being cast into helheim, or treated unfairly, or being tricked by the gods."

"We give them many scenarios. We make them live rich, through poor, through sickness and health. What they do in those lives is of their own freewill. Worship means nothing to me if it is mere words, a thought even and not action. A soul could claim that they are good but what have they done for their neighbor, what have they done to help their community, have they spoken out injustice or did they coward? My love for mortals is not unconditional. It does have limits. For a god to claim such is not love but desperation."

"A ruler is not to do as they please. A ruler is shackled, bound by the very laws they lay down for their subjects, who do everything according to that ruler's will. If a ruler cannot be held accountable by the very laws they make, how can they ever fairly judge those who they hold in their service? How can you fairly judge mortals if you yourself are unbound by the laws you hold them to? You do not grow or change. You do not have the ability to die, or to feel the pain of injury. You do not bleed, as they do, and you do not feel the fear or happiness that dominates most of their lives."

Arya just gave him a small, awkward smile. "Yeah, I...thanks. See you around."

"If my words are to extensive then perhaps you would like me to simplify it more to your liking?"

"How many mortal lives have you destroyed with your demands of purity? How many people have you hurt? How many have fallen to darkness because they broke themselves trying to live up to your stupid ideals? And so help me if you say 'well if they can't reach the standard then that's their problem,' I will slap the taste out of your mouth."

"I mean, you can say it, but I won't guarantee any reaction, favorable or unfavorable. Like I said, I got busy." A pause, then a small, almost inaudible huff. "...Sorry."

"Either way, it is a system that has worked for Paradiso and Helheim. No immoral soul shall ever step their feet unto the golden sands and plunge their hands in crystal waters."

"...You know, maybe if you're so stingy about which souls go to your 'Paradiso,' I should start skimming a couple lucky winners off the top to join me in my Underworld." Let's see how smug they act when the precious food supply is threatened...

"Gods are fair. As much as they can be to a mere soul. If they are banished, that is due to their own downfall and will get the punishment that they so rightfully earned. It is black and white because we set it that way. There is nothing else to it."
