If you all will allow me a moment to analyze the competition as it exists, there's something interesting going on with the numbers.
As we all know, thanks to the support of the good people of Tumblr, Tylenol has experienced a meteoric rise to second place. Even though her competition is stiff, I believe in Tylenol's ability to go the distance.
But let's take a look at the competition:
Elmer seems to be a lovely boy. I have no qualms with Elmer, and think he would look fantastic on a beer can. But what about Elmer's campaigns? Who is the power behind the throne here, and how have they managed to find such breakout success on this competition?
A handful of wealthy donors are trying to buy this competition.
At the end of the day, all donations are good donations here. This is a charity event so every penny earned is going to help animals in need. But it's not lost on me that Elmer's current ranking is thanks entirely to a few individuals with the financial means to put their thumbs on the scale.
Tylenol's donors, comparatively, are small and numerous, mostly $1-10 donations from many passionate believers in what she stands for (autism and pain relief I think).
Overall, the donations tell a very different story than what the base ranking shows you. Elmer is held aloft by just 24 donors and bolstered by a few wealthy patrons, whereas Tylenol has won the hearts of literally hundreds of people. Even the current third place, Abby, owes her ranking to numerous small contributions rather than one or two large ones.

I'm already not a fan of these Pearl memes 🙃
I've kinda gotten to that point in life to just accept being disappointed by stuff like this and move on. While it is baffling that Deedee Magno Hall most likely has harmful conservative views while voicing a queer character with a story that means so much to a ton of people, we gotta remember that Pearl isn't 100% connected to Deedee and who she is as a person and how she views certain things.
It's always gonna be a difficult conversation to have about actors we once looked up to suddenly being revealed to not be so great after all, but we shouldn't resort to making a character she simply provided a voice for the butt of a joke from now on in order to deal with that.
This instance is a very clear case of separating the art from the artist, I feel like. You're allowed to enjoy Pearl as a powerful and silly and meaningful character and can admire the voice work provided for her, while still being critical of Deedee's personal views that are completely separate from her work. Pearl is a fictional character who stands for a lot of progressive, forward-thinking things while Deedee, a real person, does not.
TLDR; Pearl wouldn't fucking say that
Everyone is over here freaking out about the fact that Pearl's VA follows Charlie Kirk, but for me the more telling thing is that she follows Focus on the Family. And it's not only them, she follows a lot of right-wing Christian pages that are openly homophobic/transphobic/racist.
The Charlie Kirk one is kind of funny, but I've also seen people try to say that we don't know why she follows them. Maybe she just likes debate and keeping up with them, right?
No. The plethora of things she follows is enough for me to believe she follows them because she believes these things.
Now does that ruin Pearl for me? No. She wasn't my favorite gem, but also, the character is different than the VA. But I think we need to stop excusing this and acting like we "don't know" why she's following these things.
I also don't think the situation is any reason to give the show any shit, especially since the casting was done like 14 years ago and many people have radicalised since then or even 2020, and we don't really know if her views were the same back then. And even then she's a voice actor, not the creator of the show.
