The first words that are sung are ‘There’s a war going on out there’ and inside it’s caviar [and] chandeliers. We wanted the audience to actually walk through this other space before they got to the inside space. For me, one of the main things I want to happen to people as they walk through here is that their senses get switched on. So they proceed down this long, narrow hallway and then they get to these enormous double doors, walk in, and inside it’s red and opulent and lush and that’s the moment of contrast that I designed all of this for.
