pathologic is edgy in an adult and meaningful way, but it is also edgy in all of those shallow ways you can list. it's humour is at times offensive and deliberately plays with bigotry in its jokes, there is also the obvious inclination towards aesthetic edginess and references to alternative culture. pathologic is edgy in almost every definition of the word, shallow and deeply meaningful. i think there are so many ways pathologic fits the definition of edgy reducing it down to it's pure depth is less meaningful- it doesn't capture every aspect. pathologic is about being meaningfully edgy, yes. also, it is about aspity calling you bitchless. where would we be without the combat boots everybody wears in classic? we can't let the cultural perception of pathologic as deep and unapproachable overtake the simpler ways it can be enjoyed. the tonal flexibility of the text is what makes it deep, not the absence of anything simple.
