Collection Puts A Playful, Pulpy Twist On Preposterous Stories About Obama
Fifteen writers riff on various wild conspiracy theories generated about President Obama over the years. Fresh Air critic Maureen Corrigan says the sly short stories in The Obama Inheritance pack a punch.Ā

Surreal Sunday is the perfect day to redecorate with one of these awesome stone rugs made by Vienna-based designer Martina Schuhmann. All those smooth stones are actually soft felted wool, which means that they look like real stone, but are actually soft and comfy to walk on.
Each felt stone rugs is a one-of-a-kind creation. She makes felt stone cushions too! Theyāre all sold via Schuhumannās flussdesign Etsy shop or available as a custom order via the flussdesign website.

Some might says that Brazilian artist Heloisa is really bad at drawing cats, but when you compare her source photos to her drawings, itās clear that sheās really quite skilled. She uses her pen to capture the purrfect essence of each cat she draws, including this unsettling feline photo glitch:

3-D printing just got even more accurate. MIT scientists have invented a machine that prints objects suspended in gel to counteract the negative effects of gravity.

it makes sense that gel printing would cut down on the time & material it takes to print, as usually when youāre printing an object while dealing with gravity you have to print ālatticesā to support the plastic, which are then broken off the final piece. this is such a brilliant idea!
Itās interesting because this is something already used in cell culture. Neurons, for example, are often grown in 3D gel culture because they connect to each other in multiple directions. So this, to me, is a charming example of a high-tech aesthetic looping back to life sciences.

Few of us will ever have the chance to visit outer space, but that doesnāt mean we canāt bring space to us! And what better way to do that than with these beautiful moon and planet lamps by Pulsar Moonlight, available to purchase on Etsy.
Theyāre made from recycled outdoor/garden globes by Maria Elena, a Rome-based Italian astrophysicist, and no two are the same as each one is decorated by hand using non-toxic paint. As well as the moon there are several planets to choose from including Jupiter, Neptune, and Mars, and Maria Elena paints them using scientific pictures as a reference to ensure that the craters and depressions are as close to the real thing as possible. So if youāre looking for a unique lamp thatās truly out of this world, Pulsar Moonlight has just the thing. (Source)

Meanwhile newly unveiled research shows the growing effects of climate change are even more dire than many scientists initially suspected. Some of the repercussions are already irreversible.
It seems the stakes couldnāt be much higher for the global scientific community or the planet. Read more (5/30/17)

Burtās Bees creator Burt Shavitz died Sunday ā but left behind advice we all need to hearĀ
Burt Shavitz, the bearded man whose face and spirit created the beloved brand Burtās Bees, died on Sunday at 80. Shavitz passed away in his rural home in Maine, surrounded by family and friends.
