It's funny to me antis think that because Azriel hurt Elain's feelings during the bonus chapter, they won't be together. Do they not remember these tidbits about Feysand and Nessian's relationships?
Feyre was in love with another man first, Rhys's enemy. Feyre spat at Rhys's feet and on his face UTM, told him to go to hell. Feyre called him a monster. Rhys used Feyre as bait without telling her, which upset her. Feyre said something so hurtful to Rhys it made him flinch. Rhys hid the mating bond from Feyre, and she found out via Suriel, which upset her.
Nesta hit Cassian in the groin during their bonus chapter. She refused his solstice gift and avoided him for months. She disrespected him verbally many times during their courtship. She refused to train with him in front of his people. Cassian told Nesta everyone hates her.
Feysand and Nessian moved past those, and many other trials in their relationships. That's how this goes. SJM has her couples overcome internal and external obstacles both apart, and together.
This little misunderstanding/hurt feelings with Elriel in their bonus chapter does not concern me. None of the other obstacles concern me.
It's called conflict, and it's a necessary ingredient for an interesting plot.

One day antis will realize the Eluc*en bond was only created to serve as an obstacle in Elain and Azriel’s story. It’s nothing more than a plot device.
From the moment Elain and Azriel sat down at that dinner table in ACOMAF, it was them.
Why is Azriel considered mysterious and interesting, while Elain is found boring, even though she is just as mysterious as he is?
Because Elain is a woman.

i wanted to make a part 2 to my acowar reread post since i’ve now finished the book with more thoughts/comparisons that prove elriel endgame
- when lucien and feyre are speaking, he asks feyre where he should go now that spring won’t have him. feyre thinks to herself that she would offer him a position in the night court purely to keep elain from the spring court. in this same book, feyre once again expresses fear around elain being put in lucien’s domain when she said she wanted elain no where near the fire that ran in autumn court males. so feyre wants elain away from both spring and autumn, aka both places lucien has ties to
- in ch 49, cassian gives nesta one of his knives. granted, none of his knives have as much emotional significance to him as TT does to azriel, but he gives it to nesta (his endgame) and she accepts it. cassian offers elain a knife later but she rejects it and “went white as death at the sight of it”. yet when azriel gives her TT, her eyes only widened. she did not pale, did not balk, her only reason for why she might not accept it would be due to her lack of experience in wielding it, not because she didn’t want to accept it. in both instances, the endgame male love interest gave their knife to their endgame female love interest and she accepted it.
- in ch 55, graysen rejects elain. yet the way it is described centers around the idea of hope specifically in relation to a mating bond. elain’s tears were “some sliver of hope that had shattered today. that graysen would still love her, still marry her—and that love would trump even a mating bond.” only in relation to elain is the idea that love and hope are an opposing idea from the mating bond. every other main character mated couple has these ideas intertwined (with rhys and feyre constantly telling each other how they give each other hope and they made each others dreams come true, even nesta finds hope in cassian that he will always keep his promise to fight for her when she wasn’t fought for by their father). yet lucien brings no hope to elain, only a mating bond that both she and feyre have linked as a non love match. as something that is actively responsible for killing elain’s hope that love will prevail. now we obviously know graysen is not her true love hence why it did not trump the mating bond. but azriel in ch 69 is specifically linked to the idea of hope. when rhys is giving the ic his war prep talk, he tells each of them what they mean to him. and azriel means hope. rhys said “i would not have known what it is to truly hope, even when the world tells you to despair,” when speaking to azriel. azriel’s existence is a miracle and hope. he is a living embodiment of resistance and a refusal to give in. so what other character, that has been linked to hope, that provides hope, that defies the unjust rules of the world in search of happiness could provide elain, someone who has lost her hope, who is currently being told by the world to give in to her mating bond, is there other than azriel. he may have been looking for true love his whole life, but he’s actually the salvation to elain’s misery
- in ch 65 when elain is captured and azriel saves her, the first thing she said is “you came for me” which directly mirrors the way that the cauldron tricked elain through presenting her with an illusion of graysen that “came for her.” perhaps why she “shook her head, devouring the sight of him as if not quite believing it.”
- the word choice when azriel carries elain back to safety is that he was “cradling” elain to his chest. not hold, not carry like with briar. but cradle, a specific word to show how precious something is to you
- finally all the confirmations that elain is part of the inner circle and that she isn’t leaving. in ch 64 when she is captured, rhys says “they took what is ours.” aka elain is part of their family. in ch 69, feyre describes the huddle of the ic and nesta and elain as “our family—our court.” later in the same chapter, rhys tells nesta and elain “we have not known each other long. but i have to believe that you were brought here, into our family for a reason.” same chapter, they all hold hands and form a circle “until we were all linked, all bound together.”
- about the mating bond, the cauldron differentiates between giving elain her powers and something else. it said “elain, who it has gifted such powers , found her so lovely it had wanted to give her something…”. why talk about her powers and something else as 2 different things if it’s still just mentioning her powers? perhaps this something is the mating bond that for all intents and purposes as far as we know, lucien did not feel or realized existed until elain became fae. almost like there was no mating bond as mortals like there was with feysand and nessian. almost like the cauldron gave elain a mating bond. and knowing what we know about the cauldron’s corruption, i still believe it had been led astray and mistakenly gave elain a mating bond it thought would work based on purely biological purposes (i think elriel are either mother given mates or not mates all all, tbh i’d prefer no mating bond at all but id be happy with whatever).
i’m now onto acofas so i’m very excited to report back once i finish that!
Death.
“I’m getting her back.” “Then you will die.” “I’m getting her back.”
Religion.
“What if the Cauldron was wrong?”
Self worth.
“Wrong—it was so wrong. He didn’t care.”
Politics.
“I’ll defeat him with little effort.” “I know. And your doing so will rip apart any fragile peace.”
Habits.
“This is Truth-teller. I won’t be using it today—so I want you to.” … I have never once seen Azriel let another person touch that knife.
Lovers.
After five hundred years, he’d somehow given up.
I will fight them all.
“I can help her.” … he extended a hand.
To be with you.
“..And I think Elain—Elain would like it, too. Though she’d probably cling to Azriel, just to have some peace and quiet.”
A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J. Maas

After seeing the "Elain didn't grow vegetables for their family" argument for literally the thousandth time, I have finally lost my patience with this fandom and decided to debunk the stupidest arguments I continue to see about why Elain isn't a good character . We are starting just with ACOTAR because apparently everyone read this book with blinders on or their eyes closed.
1) Elain didn't grow vegetables she only grew flowers:
- ACOTAR page 11 from Feyre's perspective "It still hadn't stopped me from buying her seeds for the flower garden."
- ACOTAR page 258 Feyre speaking about Elain "- about her plans to start another garden by the greenhouse, perhaps a vegetable garden, if she could learn enough about it over the next few months."
Literally book 1 we are told Feyre gifted Elain flower seeds, and Elain did not know how to grow a vegetable garden. Interestingly though, once Elain has the means she does plan to learn that valuable skill. She no longer needs to grow vegetables but she chooses to try and learn. That is growth.
2) Elain and Nesta are equally bad in ACOTAR.
- ACOTAR page 11 from Feyre's perspective "- it wasn't that Elain was cruel. She wasn't like Nesta-"
From the first chapter of the series we are told the sisters motivations. We can see that Elain is being set up as the Anastasia to Feyre's Cinderella, while Nesta is alluded to being the Driscilla. It's not even moderately subtle, one is stated as naive while the other is cruel. You can dislike that take but it is Feyre's perspective and this is her part of the story.
- ACOTAR page 11 from Feyre's perspective "And it hadn't stopped her from buying me three small tins of paint -"
The way so many readers glaze over the paints is honestly diabolical. Ignoring the fact that these paints are brought up multiple times throughout the series it is a clear indication in the first chapter of ACOTAR that Elain cared about Feyre. Elain did something for Feyre. Maybe not in the way she needed to, but she did more for Feyre than their father or Nesta did as far as we know.
3) Elain doesn’t do anything
- ACOTAR page 253 from Feyre's perspective "-Elain said, hooking elbows with me. "Come inside. We'll show you the house!"
- ACOTAR page 256 from Feyre's perspective "You should come with me ... but you and I ... Oh, we'd have fun wouldn't we?!"
- ACOTAR page 258 from Feyre's perspective "Instead I spent most of my time with Elain in her little garden."
- ACOTAR page 258 Feyre speaking about Elain "- a woman I found myself proud to know, to call sister."
- ACOTAR page 260 Feyre speaking about Elain "- Elain had said she missed it - a shelter from a world that possessed so little good, but she tried to find it anyway" ... "She had looked at that cottage with hope ... And I knew which one of us had been stronger."
- ACOTAR page 272 from Feyre's perspective "Elain, to my surprise, had a horse, a satchel of food, and supplies ready -" ... She nodded, tears in her eyes. "I would have liked to see the continent with you Feyre."
As far as supporting characters go, Elain is the only Archeron who really treats Feyre like family. Elain welcomed Feyre home, and when the glamor wore off helped Feyre leave. She displays joy at Ferye's return and gladly spends time with her sister. Elain even makes plans to travel with Feyre. Elain is the symbol of hope and light that Feyre fights to protect. Being kind and caring and inspiring is not nothing.
Stay tuned for more debunking since this fandom insists on rewriting the story to fit their narrative.
@elriel-month Day 31 - Acotar 6
So you don’t consider ACOFAS a real book? Well, I’m sorry, sweetie, but this book was written by the author of the series—in fact, the foundations of ACOSF, which many of you regard as a sacred text, were laid in this book—and the facts aren’t going to change just because spoiled brats like you are whining. Kapish? Now go brush your teeth and put on your pajamas. Your iPad time is limited for today.
Imagine this: you’re being held captive by enemy guards in the enemy’s palace, with no say in the matter, and you’re the first person to be sent to certain death just to determine whether the cauldron is safe for the queens. If she hadn’t survived, perhaps no one else would have been thrown into the cauldron again. And imagine losing your life for nothing. Anyone would have gone mad, but Elain stood up, took revenge for her sisters and herself, and then argued that more gardens needed to be created for the world.
Even though they stole all her roses while she was tending the gardens for all of them, she never gave up. Every time the world tried to break her, she got back up even stronger. I can’t imagine a greater strength than that. She is a role model for everyone. I love you and your unique strength, Elain. 🩷✨
If standing up for a woman who’s constantly subjected to hate speech just to force her to be with a man she doesn’t want is a common evil, then I’m your worst nightmare sister.

elain going still and her throat bobbing at the sight of azriel, their every touch being filled with tension… they’re for the period romance girlies idk what else to tell you
No Small Potatoes
Rumor is some people think the Elriels assign too much importance to and are too obsessed with the potato scene. Truthfully, we have not given it enough attention. There are no small potatoes in Prythian, so here we go.
We will start with a breakdown of various moments from the iconic scene.
“Don’t,” Elain said flatly, starting once more into a walk, veils of steam drifting past her shoulders from the roasted rosemary potatoes in her hands, as if they were Azriel’s shadows. “She won’t listen.”
It is notable that Maas chooses to compare the steam of the potato to both veils and Azriel’s shadows. It connects Elain to wedding imagery and then to Azriel himself.
But the others came barreling in from the sitting room, Cassian kissing Elain's cheek in greeting before he nearly lifted her out of the way to get to the dining table. Amen came next, giving my sister a nod, her ruby necklace sparkling in the faelights speckled throughout the garlands in the hall. Then Mor, with a smacking kiss for either cheek. Then Rhys, shaking his head at Cassian, who began helping himself to the platters Nuala and Cerridwen winnowed in. As Elain lived here, my mate gave her only a smile of greeting before taking up his seat at Cassian's right.
This scene is notable as a contrast from how the others act around her to what happens next. Anyone could have take the potatoes that she was carrying, but nobody did. They’re more casual in their behavior with her and she with them.
“Azriel emerged from the sitting room, a glass of wine in hand and wings tucked back to reveal his fine, yet simple black jacket and pants. I felt, more than saw, my sister go still as he approached. Her throat bobbed.”
Elain goes still at the sight of Azriel. Cassian went still at the sight of Nesta and Azriel went still at the sight of Elain earlier on in the series. Now she goes still at the sight of him. It’s a romantic pattern. Then Elain’s throat bobs showing she was nervous or excited about seeing him. How cute. Their reactions to each other as mentioned earlier, contrast against the earlier interactions with the others. There is a tension that their Maas clearly wanted to highlight.
"Are you just going to hold that chicken all night?" Cassian asked me from the table. Scowling, I stomped toward him, plunking the platter onto the wooden surface. "I spat in it," I said sweetly. "Makes it all the more delicious," Cassian crooned, smiling right back. Rhys snickered, drinking deeply from his wine.
This interaction again sets up to provide contrast for what happens later on.
“In time to see Elain say to Azriel “Hello”. Az said nothing. No, he just moved toward her. Mor tensed beside me. But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, “Sit. I’ll take care of it.” Elain’s hands remained in midair, as if the ghost of the dish remained between them. With a blink, she lowered them, and noticed her apron. “I—I’ll be right back,”
Mor tensing is interesting. She has interesting reactions when it comes to Elain and Azriel more than once. I wonder why. Maas took care to note that Azriel’s voice was soft when he spoke to Elain. So sweet. Additionally, Look at him relieving her burden like a true partner. Then Elain freezing and blinking is so interesting especially since many have theorized her blinking means she had a vision. I’ve long wondered if she saw something. I also find it so cute she got self conscious and ran off to calm down and pretty herself.
Azriel set the potatoes in the center of the table, Cassian diving right in. Or he tried to. One moment, his hand was spearing toward the serving spoon. The next, it was stopped, Azriel's scarred fingers wrapped around his wrist. "Wait," Azriel said, nothing but command in his voice.
Mor gaped wide enough that I was certain the half-chewed green beans in her mouth were going to tumble onto her plate. Amren just smirked over the rim of her wineglass. Cassian gawked at him. "Wait for what? Gravy?" Azriel didn’t let go. “Wait until everyone is seated.”
In the earlier interaction, Maas only says Feyre plunked the potatoes onto the table. Here Maas specifically says Azriel places the potatoes in the center of the table. She chose to note he gave them a place of honor. Then Azriel making everyone wait for Elain to eat is absolutely husband material. Everyone’s reactions here also show that this was an atypical choice from Azriel to highlight how special it was he did this for Elain.
“Elain swept in apron gone and hair rebraided. “Please don’t wait on my account”, she said taking the seat at the head of the table.”
Awww she prettied herself up for him. It’s also notable that she sat at the head of the table in the townhouse, a place typically reserved for the owner or head of the household. How interesting. Is that foreshadowing for it being HER home one day. Coincidentally it is the place where Azriel carried her over the threshold like a bride and groom.
Now let’s look at the dish itself. Roasted Rosemary Potatoes:
Looking at the rosemary. There’s the obvious rose in the name which is another rose connection, but that’s low hanging fruit. Some sources claim rosemary was believed to be able to reveal your true love. It had also been associated with rememberance, faithfulness, and fidelity in love. Then the potatoes of it all. Potatoes were served the day Elain and Azriel met. Potatoes have been considered a symbol of resilience (Elriel can survive anything), life, and hope (a hope theory tie in). Many also consider potatoes a comfort food. So in a way Elain was giving Azriel comfort.
An addition fun fact is that potatoes have been present from the very start of Elriel. Potatoes were one of the dishes at their first ever meal together.
*A faint smile bloomed upon Azriel's mouth as he noticed Elain's fingers white-knuckled on that fork, but he kept silent,
…
I sighed through my nose and yanked the lids off the various dishes and casseroles. Poached salmon with dill and lemon from the hothouse, whipped potatoes, roast chicken with beets and turnips from the root cellar, and some casserole of egg, game meat, and leeks.*
LONG LIVE POTATOES.
