Hunter figures he likes this more than fusing with Belos, there's a different energy to fusing with Raine, a more comforting one. fusing with Belos was like walking on hot coals or balancing on spikes, Raine was like laying on a stable - if flimsy - fabric up in the air, still an air of wrong and danger but not as harsh as Belos

Raine's partially freaking out because they know what Hunter had been taught of fusion and of course they're going to teach him more about fusion afterwards but they don't think they can lie to him about their intentions (Hunter will take it awfully well but that's because he hasn't been taught better)

I can imagine them avoiding fusion in front of others, but if asked, they'll claim it's entirely platonic/for battle
