Hello, you've got smth negative to get out of your system abt proshipping? or simply saying names?

it's very contradictory to say 'fiction doesn't affect reality' and be a selfshipper (no hate to selfshippers, I am one of you)

Maybe it's because I'm a fictive and therefore my perception of canon is different and deeply personal, but I hate that I am 50+ years old in source (and even if you only count the years I was active, I'd be 4) with but people opt to ship me with the mostly teenage cast or the barely adult woman when I have no official physical age and even then it's wildly innaporpriate to do. Proshippers annoy me.

man what is it with every single fucking female courier 6 fanfics just being the courier being raped, like seriously what the fuck.

I don’t know if this is petty or not, but I specifically dislike proshippers who make popular ships between two characters incestuous for no reason at all. I remember having to mute the entirety of the Kinktober 2025 tag on here because my favorite ship between two popular characters in a superhero/semi-marvel related fandom was made full/half brothers because apparently one of the kink prompts was incest. It made me feel so bad because I had to break mutuals with one of my friends because they were also doing the prompt, and I couldn’t tell whether or not I was a judgmental bitch for being uncomfortable with it.

I’m starting to loathe proshippers with all of my being because they genuinely have ruined the reputation of victims

being a fan of really old manga/showa era shoujo gets annoying pretty quickly when you have to hear "it was a different time" / "it's normal in japan" when it comes to incestuous, pedophilic or straight up rape works. those stories have been made in certain era under conditions, yeah, but that alone doesn't make me less uncomfortable with those topics. i don't like how a lot of those stories are framed and the context behind them doesn't determine whether i have to like it or not. some things make me uncomfortable in fiction and that's fine.

I hate when proshippers say fiction doesn't affect reality… You think cats enjoy milk and bears enjoy honey, all because of fiction. When you were a kid you thought your toys would come to life because of toy story, a work of fiction. If you're gonna be a pRoBleMatiC fReAk at least don't act stupid on purpose.

Honestly, when I see people on this site who label themselves as a "fandom elder," that's really off putting to me. Because it feels like a lot of people I've seen who use that label also tend to agree with the proshipping ideology. Even besides that, their attitude can come off as annoying with some of them having the mindset that they're the better fans who know everything just because they've been in their fandoms for a long time. I've compared them to boomers before and despite most of these "elders" being mainly millennials, I still think my comparison is pretty accurate.

The proshipers on the nightmare on elm street fandom scare tf out of me, specially bc Freddy has this subtext that it's probably a pedophile (in a way that its shown as evil or scary on the movies rather than desirable or charismatic) and most if not all his victims are teenagers and children

If fiction didn’t affect reality, comic con wouldn’t exist. Cosplayers wouldn’t exist. Hell, not even fanart would exist, because guess what? ALL OF THOSE ARE EXAMPLES OF WAYS FICTION DOES AFFECT REALITY.
