The Steven Universe episode “Greg the Babysitter” aired recently. Here’s the demo for the song “Need A Little Change”!

Rebecca Sugar wrote the song, which is a very clever double entendre if you ask me. Since the song is a flashback to Greg’s past, Rebecca was thinking of something 90s, and kept mentioning the Josie and the Pussycats movie. Punk and ska being the only genres I know, I tried to put together a rhythm that felt 90s pop punk.

I programmed some drums and laid down the bass. Then Jeff Liu came in and did guitar! Here’s Jeff!

Jeff: I had a lot of fun working with Ben on the demo for this one! We experimented with several different styles. We got some palm-muted power chords, some surfy harmonic minor stuff in the bridge, and a bunch of fun dynamic changes (switching between fast, slow, sweet, and ROCK).

This is what I love about Winter. You wake up in the middle of the night, maybe just to pee or get water or something, look out the window and see this. It’s so beautiful. And it’s silent; you have no idea that it’s happening until you just look. It almost seems fake. And it makes your bed seem way more comfortable, for whatever reason.

I can actually hear the silence of this photo. It’s freaking me out.

this scene kills me. as far as Steven knows, he’s about to die, all alone, in the middle of space. ANOTHER gem just tried to kill him because of his moms actions. He just found out his mom is a murderer, and that his family had been keeping that from him his entire life, while he spent it idolizing Rose Quartz and always feeling like he could never live up to what she had been. He’s literally emotionally traumatized, and he has to accept the fact that he’s about to die. I sobbed so much during this scene
