Oxfords Outlaws, The “Making Of”

Redesigns!

Winfred and Burton were well in-need of redesigns... Burts looked the same since his first rendition and Winfred- well Winfred was just lacking something. Their new designs I think really amplifies the original vision I had for them. Burt is meant to look a bit more “deer”(?) like, a little more unique rather than looking like another sub-par white guy. Winfred is to have a stronger “lion” vibe to him, which I definitely think I got.

All around, I wanted these two to come off as slightly more “whimsical” and unique. Compared to their other group members they just sort of had something missing.

The Oxford’s Outlaws logo, 2017 vs 2018

There are some earlier renditions of the Antler & Wings logo, however I decided to put in the two that I consider the most “Official.” Of course, the most recent one being the current Official logo.

I plan on doing a full post about meanings later on in my writing.

Robin & Kiwi

I took a break to draw Marquis and the new version of Robin! Rather than being a thoroughbred, which is an English breed, Robin is a war horse, without a specified breed but can best be described as some sort of Warmblood. Robin is still his moody self, but he’s been changed to a bay dapple grey and is a little less spooky. I personally think Robin is an absolute stunner now. Him and Kiwi have to be my favourite horse-rider pairing look wise

The “Oxford Lads”

It’d be stupid of me to go on with this blog without posting a photo of the four main characters, Burt being our main protagonist. It actually took my quite a while to decided on which character should tell the story and for a good while leaned on chosing Winfred instead. However, weighing their pros and cons, Burton could speak the main language of each kingdom and Winfred could not. That was the be-all-end-all tie breaker in that case. It’s a little ironic since Burt was the newest character at the time. (Marquis being the oldest, now going on existing for five years)

In this new draft I’m trying to take special care of differentiating them and making them their own people with more flaws. I’m thriving to make everything a lot less “cutsey” and lovey-dovey. I, liking to think I’ve matured, am not of fan of how much fluff was in all of the previous versions of OxOu.

Former Covers

To start off this blog, here are the covers of the first two books who are currently being rewritten into one, taking on the name “Ignition.” A cover page for the new Ignition is still in the works, and it is not a top priority of mine at the moment! But I hope to implement the Oxford’s Outlaws logo in it.

There isn’t any set story behind the covers, they have no significance visually- i just made them to look cool.
