I’m going on a quest to find these trolls #beautiful #art Repost from @npr • Thomas Dambo and his collaborators have created dozens of trolls in mountains, forests and parks around the world, from China to Puerto Rico. These 15- to 30-foot-high sculptures made out of scrap wood have earned Dambo the title "one of the most prominent recycle artists in the world." Dambo both designs the trolls and writes their fairy tales. "They're real to me," he says. "I know it sounds a bit crazy." The most important thing for Dambo is that his trolls draw people into nature "to have a good experience there." And he hopes people see that garbage can be turned into something big and beautiful. "I like to think that my art can help change people's perspective from trash being something that has no value to something that has a big value," he says. Lol .. - What I love about memes, is the connection to culture, and how one can illustrate the connections between background knowledge (which can be influenced by culture), and what the meme is trying to communicate, similar to the way culture and background knowledge can impact how a reader connects with or understands the reading and the literature used in many classrooms! - Your background knowledge (not just the words in the text) can absolutely help you understand the content and context (and therefore draw deeper meaning), and that’s why we have to be sure to not only have a one-sided (colonial-ish curriculum) and also we have to be careful about how much weight we place on some of our reading assessments and assessments in other areas!! - Now, suppose this was on a standardized test? How many would pass with flying colors, and how many would be lost? lol (your background knowledge or cultural awareness will help to determine this) - Drop the 🔥 if you understand the meme! 😁 - Don’t give it away!! It's also striking if you know the backstory: For these girls — who for years were prohibited from going in the water by their conservative Muslim culture — learning to swim is a revolutionary act.
