Introduction Log #000
Date: June 16, 2026
Time: 7:12 AM
Location: Pallet Town, Kanto Region
⸻
The following entry was recorded shortly before my departure from Pallet Town and the beginning of my regional field survey.
I had the distinct privilege of meeting with Professor Samuel Oak at his laboratory to discuss the purpose of my journey and the work that lies ahead.
What follows is an excerpt from our conversation.
⸻
Professor Oak: “So, you’re the young researcher from Massachura I’ve been hearing about.”
Rowan Hemlock: “I hope that’s a good thing, Professor.”
Professor Oak: “Anyone willing to travel the world with a notebook instead of a trophy case has my attention.”
Rowan Hemlock: “There are already countless Pokédex records and research papers. Sometimes I wonder if there’s really anything left to discover.”
Professor Oak: “That’s the mistake many young researchers make.”
Professor Oak gestured toward a photograph of several Trainers pinned to the wall behind his desk.
Professor Oak: “People think discovery ends once a Pokémon has been cataloged. The truth is we’re only beginning to understand them. Every region has stories. Every town has traditions. Every Trainer sees something different.”
Rowan Hemlock: “Then what should I be looking for?”
Professor Oak: “Not what. Why.”
There was a brief silence before he continued.
Professor Oak: “Why do certain Pokémon thrive in one region but not another? Why do legends endure for generations? Why do people and Pokémon form the bonds they do? Those are the questions worth chasing.”
Rowan Hemlock: “And if I don’t find the answers?”
Professor Oak: laughing softly “Then ask better questions.”
⸻
I left Professor Oak’s laboratory shortly thereafter and began my journey toward Viridian Forest.
Before establishing a laboratory of my own in the Massachura Region, I have committed myself to studying the Pokémon, cultures, folklore, ecosystems, and mysteries of every major region currently known to the world.
This journal will serve as a collection of those observations.
From the forests of Kanto to the mountains of Sinnoh, from the shores of Hoenn to the islands of Alola, I hope to document not only Pokémon themselves, but the stories that surround them.
Whether you are a Trainer, fellow researcher, or simply someone with a love for Pokémon, I invite you to join me on this expedition.
There is always another route to explore.
Always another mystery waiting to be solved.
Until tomorrow,
— Rowan Hemlock
Associate Pokémon Professor
