Sam was still chuckling when he wiped his eyes. “No you won’t. You want me to take you flying again.” He grinned at his friend. “But let’s be real, that was pretty great and I’m telling Natasha and we are never letting you live this down.”

Clint grinned and stared Sam down. He could see how it would be funny. Maybe. If it wasn’t happening to him. “I’ll get Tony do it.” The joking smile left his face at the mention of Natasha. “C’mon, man. You just became an Avenger. Don’t push it by ruining my life.”

“Are you going to have to pay for that? I still have to report back soon, but I’ve been good so they’re letting me go on a walk.”

“We have insurance. Or we should. You’ve been good? That doesn’t sound right.”

Kate shot him a pointed look. She was allowed to be concerned with him. “Fine for you and fine for everyone else is different.” Most people would die while Clint was still claiming that he was fine. “He’s going to if you keep pushing him away every night.”

“Clint. No. What the actual hell?”

Clint gave her a confused look before taking a closer look at what the drone was carrying. Oh. “Shit. They deliver by drone now?”

She glowered, though she understood where he was coming from. “It was not,” she said, examining it. “In the future, I recommend obtaining information before shooting at something.”

“I’ll make sure to keep that in mind.” Is there where he said ‘your majesty’ or bowed or some shit like that? God, alien customs were confusing. “In the future, I’d recommend shipping things to a P.O. box. Not a secure location if any Amazon worker can find us.”

Jane snorted. She’d seen some of Tony’s failed projects. “It’s a bit late. I’ve seen Bruce and Darcy and Darcy won’t let me leave again with out her. Especially if I leave her to run my classes again.”

“C’mon. Darcy can handle your classes for a few more weeks. It’s summer. It’s not like the kids are even paying attention. You just hightail it out of here now or you give those extra vacation days to me?”

“I’d appreciate the effort. Lola is important.”

“I’m important. I enjoy not being burned alive.”

ʟᴜᴄᴋʏ ᴘɪᴄᴋᴇᴅ ᴜᴘ ᴀ sᴄᴇɴᴛ﹕ ᴄʟɪɴᴛ

              “Wuff.” Lucky kept his eyes trained on Clint as he balanced                    himself on the counter, prepared to help him if he fell             or run and get help. There was only so much a dog could do,                       but he was trying. He slooowly relaxed to sit down next to him,            still well within range to help him if needed. There was a curious head tilt                  at the sight of the fridge being open, tail beginning to thump off                            the floor before being presented with his options.                   One smelled like pork. Pork made him sick. Pork wasn’t good                              for Lucky. He raised his paw, smacking the container holding                        chicken, barking in approval. “Ruowf!”

“Chicken it is.” Clint placed both containers on the counter and opened them. He transferred them to plates with some difficulty and popped Lucky’s into the microwave. “You seen Kate yet? She doing okay?” He asked Lucky as he made himself a pork sandwich. It was still strange not having his dog and his partner in the same small space. He’d miss Lucky for hours on the huge campus and the chance of running into Kate was more unlikely. The microwave beeped and Clint took out the chicken. He placed the plate on the floor for Lucky and gave the dog another scratch behind the ear. 

“It shall be my loss,” Thor chuckled before growing confused. “I am confused. New ears? How does one get new ears on Earth?”

Thor frowned. “I fare as best I can. I have lost much in a short time.”

“New hearing aids. Lost the other ones on Steve’s birthday. We can’t, uh, grow new ears.” He grinned before trying to stay serious while still thinking about growing new ears. “Just focus on the battle we’ll be having soon.” Warfare seemed like a proven way to cheer Thor up.

“yea, just–rough night sleeping.–are you really the janitor?”

“That’s what they tell me. It’s for detention. I make the kids clean. Aren't they all rough?”

“I think I’ll pass,” he said as he put the sriracha bottle back down. “Have you considered nutrients? Vegetables, maybe?”

“There’s gotta be some vegetables in the siracha. Peppers?”

Carol grinned over at Clint, and raised her glass to him. “Duly noted. I’ll try to give you fair warning.”

“It’s nice to see that you’ve only lost your mind, not your touch.”

“Hey. It’s a robot. Nice to see they let you out of Observation.”

“I should like to see you without it, now. How fare you since last I saw you.”

“I won’t be letting that happen. Got myself a pair of new ears so I’d say pretty well. You doing alright?”

“No, I do not think it does. Though I am surprised of your need of it. I have never seen you lacking the ability to be alert.”

“Well, you’ve finally found out why. It’s my secret weapon.”
