Kakashi wasn’t meant to teach. He was assigned, rather than having the option to choose to do it. And you know what, he did a damn good job despite not wanting to be a teacher. Right from the start he’s being extremely strict on the students he lets pass to make sure the students are ready.

Kakashi focuses on chakra control right away in a effective way that they can all understand. He works with Sasuke to master the chudori and his sharingan. Kakashi works with Naruto using a method only Naruto can use, and does it for days.

More than that, he attempts to meet their emotional needs. Kakashi explains and comforts Naruto about having to fight Zabuza and Haku. He reassures Sasuke that he won’t let anything happen to them. He tells Sakura that everything was gonna be alright after he had to stop Naruto and Sasuke from hurting each other. He does his best to steer Sasuke from a dark path. Kakashi takes into account the trauma Naruto and Sasuke faced.

What illustrates more that Kakashi wasn’t meant to be a teacher is how much more comfortable he is in battle rather than instruction. When him and Gai face the swordsman of the mist, Kakashi stepping in to save Iruka from pain, going to save Gaara and helping Team 10 against Hidan and Kakuzu. He’s clearly in his element.

Kakashi wasn’t cut out to be a teacher but he did his best and tried his hardest and his three students became legends in their own right.
