Your Place for Problematic Fódlan and Dagda Takes

Inspired by older projects on Dreamwidth as well as by an unaffiliated blog that was unfortunately deactivated, here's a place for you to submit anonymous opinions, headcanons, and interpretations of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, or Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave without worrying about getting trolled, flamed, or caught in an endless reblog war. Takes will be posted without comment, though as more come in they will be tagged according to topic for easier searching.

Rules:

All asks and submissions must be anonymous. Those who do not adhere to this rule will have their names censored, and will be ignored if I can't fit the entire submission in at most two screencaps.

Do not send asks entirely in header font, or in all caps. They're annoying to read.

Asks must also primarily relate to one of the Fódlan/Dagda games. References to other Fire Emblem games or other media are acceptable provided Three Houses/Hopes or Fortune's Weave remain the focus.

References to real-life events/situations are permitted, but please remain civil. This includes not bashing or making generalizing statements about anyone based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. or making statements that could be considered culturally insensitive, i.e. bashing real world religions. Also do not assume any of these things about other anons or attribute any real-life political affiliations to them. References to especially charged topics, for example Nazis/fascism or the Palestinian genocide, are also banned. The blog owner reserves the right not to publish submissions considered to be offensive or deliberately inflammatory.

Do not accuse other anons of being part of any particular fandom faction, ex. "Edelstan", Edelcrit", or "Dimitri stan". This includes alternatives to these labels, like "Edelgard fan/hater," when used in a negative sense. Self-identification as one of these labels is fine. Similarly, the term "fujoshi" and variations is not allowed except as a self-identifier because of its potential as a sexist or transphobic slur.

Online names of participants in Fódlan discourse may be included, but this is not meant to invite trolling or harassment and ought to be understood as such by readers as well as by those making submissions. Harassment is bad, people. Don't do it. I also reserve the right not to publish any such submissions if they name people who I see publicly interacting with this blog, so as to head off any potential arguments.

Submissions may not contain URLs linking to other posts on this blog, nor may they quote or directly address other anons. This is to avoid confusing exchanges between different anons as well as prevent submissions turning into another type of reblog chain. Also, asks that are just one or two word responses about another post will not be published. Use the reply feature if you need to make a reaction like that.

The three lords all have scenes across the whole game that progress their relationships with Byleth and deepen it. Also each lord has at least some personal character development in the main story, even if people argue about the quality and extent of it. Seteth has nothing, I even reread SS cutscene dialog in the datamine and rewatched some of them, too, but nope. Meanwhile SS dialog for Byleth at least allows you to roleplay a character arc for them, though you can also choose not to. Byleth is the lord of SS full stop.

Yes, the execution is massively botched.

Yes, it would have been better if Rhea was a playable lord and SS was all about her.

But it's not unreasonable to look at the SS we actually got and conclude that the devs were trying to make it the Byleth centered route.

the important thing to remember is that irl opinions can be just as ass as online ones

It’s been done here before where people also complain about how certain characters and ships get portrayed and again, there is nothing you can do about another person’s interpretation or ideas. Not everything a fic writer puts in their fics are their personal views, sometimes they are just exploring new ideas.

Again, I’m not claiming OG anon is doing this, but there is this arrogance for some fans who think they know the character best and get really bent out of shape if you “do it wrong”. Which is funnny cause what they are getting most upset about is other people not adopting the headcanon version that only exist in their heads.

If you want to see certain characters get more love, have fics that explore their character, etc…well sometimes you gotta be that person that does it. You can’t just sit around and wait for someone else to do it.

I really hope the person who said they were gonna write that Rhea fic does it and you all better read it. Because I’ve seen too many times people say they want something for certain characters and then they don’t buy the merch, read and comment on the fic, or share the art.

Positive interaction in the fandom is the best way to go to get more of what you’d like to see.

I will say that with this many brown characters, I really wish they were willing to also push the envelope with women at least a little but diverse women that are not cute or hot might be the final frontier in getting rid of -isms in JRPGs. We've gotten LGBT rep and diverse POC rep before this.

These devs would die if they had to make a woman 40+, and not make her an immortal dragon that happens to look like a loli or a 30yo milf.

She has hype and aura moments like beating Nemesis and defending the monastery and her tragic backstory, but there is also a significant chunk missing in her character. I respect anyone who stans her but at the end of the day, I don't feel like I know her enough to be really attached to her. And I suspect there is a silent but signifcant number of people who feel the same.

I also think her character relies too much on invoking sympathy for her sad backstory instead of giving us insights into her thoughts about the state of Fodlan and why she did the things she did, like letting nobles abuse their crests without intervening or stopping significant technological innovations.

I was going to reply at first saying that I can't see Hilda or Lorenz (especially Lorenz) having a spice tolerance enough for Claude to have a wounded pride. And that if anyone of the Golden Deer could handle some heat it would be Raphael.

*However* I went ahead and looked at the menu. There are a few mentions of spices but *two* dishes are labeled as spicy and *super spicy*. Leonie likes the Spicy Fish and Turnip Stew (ew?) and Ignatz Marianne and Leonie like the Super-Spicy Fish Dango.

So we have our answer who likes spicy dishes. Whether they hurt Claudes pride I don't know. We can probably assume that spices are harder to come by by commoners as well. If you really want a stretch it maybe Hilda's got a spice tolerance by proxy over time?

My money is in either Hilda or Lorenz.
