Peeta: Oh, fiddlesticks! That really ruffles my feathers.
Katniss: *crying* Please just say "fuck."
Peeta and I grow back together… his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips.
THE HUNGER GAMES [2012 – 2015]
Top 5 The Hunger Games characters as voted by my followers: #2 → Peeta Mellark (13% / 64 votes)
The morphling seems mesmerized by Peeta’s words. Entranced. She lifts up a trembling hand and paints what I think might be a flower on Peeta’s cheek. “Thank you,” he whispers. “That looks beautiful.”
“I want to die as myself. Does that make any sense?” → peeta mellark for @bruceswyne

thinking about how peeta mellark grew up in twelve with an abusive mother, went in the hunger games, lost a leg, went in the games again, was captured and emotionally and physically tortured, found out his home had been destroyed and his entire family were dead, was brainwashed into being terrified of the one person left he loved and fought in a war all by the age of 18 but his defining characteristic remained his undeniable goodness and ability to represent hope
I recently reread Catching Fire and then watched the movie. As always I am so disappointed that so many great Everlark moments are completely left out of the movie. The Cheese bun time, the rooftop picnic and just want to spend every last minute with you scene to name a few. But then I started thinking about the Everlark scenes that did make it into the film and how even those didn’t live up to the book. I kind of feel robbed a second time. The movie seems to skip some of the subtle warmth and affection between Katniss and Peeta. Here are some examples:
Cinna and Portia arrive with the dawn, and I know Peeta will have to go. Tributes enter the arena alone. He gives me a light kiss. “See you soon,” he says.
“See you soon,” I answer.
I look at the others' sober faces. Now Finnick, Johanna, and Beetee have all lost their district partners. I cross to Peeta and wrap my arms around him, and for a while we all stay silent.
I know it's stopped when I feel Peeta's hands on me, feel myself lifted from the ground and out of the jungle. But I stay eyes squeezed shut, hands over my ears, muscles too rigid to release. Peeta holds me on his lap, speaking soothing words, rocking me gently. It takes a long time before I begin to relax the iron grip on my body. And when I do, the trembling begins.
After a while I rest my head against his shoulder. Feel his hand caress my hair.
I take Peeta's face in my hands. “Don't worry. I'll see you at midnight.” I give him a kiss and, before he can object any further, I let go and turn to Johanna. “Ready?”
Slowly, as I would with a wounded animal, my hands stretches out and brushes a wave of hair from his forehead. He freezes at my touch, but doesn’t recoil. So I continue to gently smooth back his hair. It’s the first time I have voluntarily touched him since the last arena. “You’re still trying to protect me. Real or not real,” he whispers.
On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale’s fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.
I deactivated twitter because people follow me so I can use tumblr as my yelling into a void place at last 😌
