“Only rumors so far,” Katsuki assures him. But then his mouth forms a grim line. “I don’t want you to worry. I just didn’t want to keep you in the dark about this.” 

Izuku’s mind is reeling with this new information. While he appreciates the sentiment, he can’t believe Katsuki thinks he can just not worry. Especially about a possible rebellion of all things. 

“But—” Izuku shakes his head, blinking rapidly. “But I don’t understand. Why would they rebel?” 

Katsuki’s sigh is heavy and exasperated.  

“I dunno,” he says, sounding weary. His eyes are dull as he stares into the distance over Izuku’s shoulder. “Wish I fuckin’ did.” 

Izuku’s heart pangs in his chest as he stares at his king. His good, kind Kacchan. Anger simmers in his veins, crawling up his throat like corrosive acid. Who the fuck thinks they’d make a better king than his alpha? Izuku sees how hard Katsuki works for his people; he sees evidence of his king’s goodness every day. It’s in the way he considers each action he takes carefully, how he shoulders the responsibility with dignity and grace. And he never hesitates to make the necessary sacrifices to keep his people happy and safe. Izuku can’t believe they’d even consider choosing anyone over him. 

“Unbelievable,” Izuku mutters, sour with disdain. His inner omega is growling at the threat to his alpha. “What more could they possibly want from you?”
