Just throwing it out there, I think the stars are going to die anyway. We saved Earth and we saved Erid, but that was assuming their stars had orbiting planets that could sustain the Taumoeba. How can the Taumoeba possibly be nurtured in interstellar solar systems that lack the necessary conditions for the Taumoeba to even EAT the Astrophage.

I'm not saying it's hopeless, because Earth and Erid are saved, but what about all the other stars? We rely on the stars for navigation, we'll eventually lose centuries of cultural inspiration. I'm not well-versed, but if the Astrophage problem is so widespread then that means we'll be looking at a much darker universe.

And that brings Iron Lung into the equation. It would make sense for the Quiet Rapture to become this. What happens if Taumoeba fails, what if the sun dies again? Simon was on a space station, orbiting Mars I think, when the stars went away.

If the sun disappeared now, it would take us eight minutes to notice the darkness. How much more for people who live in space? When the stars go out and the light is lost, they can't rely on simple methods to detect planetary bodies. All the likelihood, any of those who DO try to orbit or land on planets they find, crash. Not to mention there's the issue of food and population. Who can possibly bother with infrared, radio signals when the people onboard barely understand what they're working with and are actively killing each other to survive?

The Consolidation of Iron and Eden likely only got the sweeping description of what was a slow death long after the beetles made it back. They don't know it took decades. And then eldritch stuff comes around, maybe a last resort, another Hail Mary, but there was no one to catch them this time.

Grace Rocky save stars but was it enough.

One little idea I had for this au is that Grace and Adrian weren't super close when Grace was still human. They were friendly of course, and both appreciated and cared for the other due to what they meant to Rocky, but they never really had the time to get to know each other well. Adrian didn't have the time to visit Grace as much as Rocky, and Grace had very few opportunities to leave his dome at all.

Adrian was however one of the lead scientists on the transfer project, and once Grace was in his new body they took up a huge part of the responsibility of teaching him how to be an Eridian. They grew incredibly close during this time, Grace coming to trust and find comfort in Adrian just as much as he does Rocky, and Adrian grew to adore Grace's intelligence, humour, and still very much human mannerisms. They both also grew very fond of ganging up on Rocky at any given opportunity because they're both absolute lil shits uwu

That I ended up adding a lil sweater too cuz I imagine "nakedness" would be one of those things he would have a hard time getting used to

And now I'm stuck with the thought of him accidently creating a new Eridian fashion trend because his pebbles DEFFINITELY want to copy their fav teacher.

Adrian gave him the bell, because when he was first getting used to his body he kept forgetting to use his passive echolocation. Which not only made it very difficult for him to see, but also made it so other Eridians at times didn't even notice him because he was so quiet. So the bell helped him lightly start reading his surroundings while he got comfortable using his voice, and it also made sure others didn't accidently bump into him :D

After sifting through hundreds of photos... I have realized that every time Simon takes a photo in the SM-13, he's pulling up a frame to a stop motion animation.

And it can be played back as video.

So, I took each black box photo and compiled them together. You can now watch Simon's entire journey from the SM-13's camera like found footage.

we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)

Fic concept:

About a year on route to Erid, Rocky starts to feel strange. It turns out Rocky’s emotional state calming down significantly after 40+ years of high stress, combined with his close relationship with Grace helping him feel safe and needed, results in Rocky’s reproductive system kicking in and decided now is the perfect time to lay a clutch of eggs.

Rocky panics once he realizes what’s happening only a few days before he’ll need to lay them. He’s never layed a cluch before without Adrian there, and currently the only other being here is an alien! Yes, Grace is Rocky’s alien, but still!

Laying a cluch alone is very difficult on a Eridian. Logically, the eggs are not viable on their own without their mates own eggs present to potentially fuse with. But emotionally, for the days after laying them, those are Rocky’s Eggs.

Scientifically, the time it takes for the parental instincts to recede almost always a line with the length of time a single egg has the potential to fuse.

Rocky is so embarrassed, and Grace tries to be supportive of his friend even if he feels way out of his depth. Grace sticks close and fills the partner roll as best as he can. He helps distract Rocky from discomfort or pain with movies and documentaries. Then helps Rocky keep watch over the eggs, and Rocky too when he finally sleeps. Rocky is very delicate and protective with the eggs and it’s so incredible to see as a human.

Then, it’s the last day left before the eggs will fail. Rocky is very mixed emotionally, as he looks over the five eggs carefully placed around him. He just wants this to be over with and yet he feels this deep melancholy at the thought of none of his eggs fusing.

Grace offers to stay up with Rocky until he’s ready to let go of them, but Rocky insist that Grace should finally get some sleep instead. Grace agrees, but only gets about three hours before Rocky is panicking and demanding Grace wake up NOW.

Grace falls out of bed and stumbles over himself to get to Rocky and see what’s wrong.

Rocky had layed 5 eggs.

There are now 4 eggs.

One egg is now significantly larger and has changed texture.

Two of Rocky’s own eggs have fused into one! Fully asexual reproduction! Grace the scientist is delighted and thinking about the potential variables that caused this (the radiation exposure is a big one), while Grace the man is horrified because now there’s gonna be a Baby Eridian on the Hail Mary!

Rocky is in shock. His parental instincts are overdrive, while he also sits in horror that he has to explain a pebble to Adrian. How can he explain this? What if they think he’s been unfaithful?? Has this ever happened to humans???

This piece has been rotting in my art folder for months now and I finally figured out how I Wanted to color/render Dinraal.

Casper High started replacing "God" with "Phantom". It started because a teacher started screeching at them for "Taking the Lord's name in Vain" whenever they would say "Oh My God" or "Goddammit" or something similar, so instead they would say "Phantomdammit" or "Oh My Phantom". It kinda started as a joke, but as time went on it became second nature.

Heres the thing though: a lot of Spiritual Entities get their power through belief. By invoking Phantom's name in a way thats synonymous with a God's, Casper High inadvertently turned Phantom into a God/God like being.
