It's so fucking crazy that the Star Trek episode where you first see Spock do the Vulcan salute that would become emblematic of the entire franchise, and the first time you hear him say "live long and prosper," is also the one where he has to return to his home planet to Fuck Or Die but then gets manipulated into a pro wrestling match with Kirk that apparently serves the same function as the fuck option and totally cures him. And this aired as the season two premiere! It was the first time audiences saw Chekov! And it's the one with top surgery Kirk. It truly has it all. Greatest TV episode ever made.

star trek lore gave us a Vulcan term for a soul mate bond so deep that it transcends both normal friendship and romance, entering a realm of total acceptance, understanding and love, and then made spock use it to describe kirk. he said it in earnest, in the privacy of his own mind, while agonizing over the fact that he'd never see him again. but it turned out in the end that his connection to kirk was so strong, it just could not be severed. which could mean nothing

I find it funny that the author of Star Trek invented a Vulcan word to describe Jim and Spock's relationship. A word that means "friend, brother, and lover." Then he spends an entire page justifying the "lover" part, saying it was just a metaphor. An entire page when he could have avoided any misunderstanding if he had simply stated that the word meant "friend, brother." Nobody would have speculated or complained because, after all, he CREATED the word.

Spock is relatable because he'll tell you something he does is odd or unfamiliar because it's vulcan but then you meet other vulcans and realize that he's actually a little freak

on amok time again: they really did "spock experiences primal alien mating drive and murder fuck ritual," and didn't even play with "and this is an excuse to see our prim and proper mr spock get sensual with a lady!". like he expends ALL of his hot dominating fantasy uncontrollable lust rage energy ON KIRK. they wrote that and had ONE chance to make spock have any scandalous, carnal housewife jerk off material romance they wanted with any sexy space woman in the universe, and they chose kirk. when he does interact with a woman he throws a soup at her
