each of the combat stands is controlled by a knob. rotating this knob will cause the attached figure to rotate, its limbs flailing wildly. the aim of the game is to press the button on the opposing figure’s chest so they will fall off the stand and net you a point.

in a shockingly fitting turn of events, optimus prime’s button will make him pop off the stand. megatron’s requires an additional pulling motion, which makes victory nigh impossible. regardless, the buttons will likely not be pressed. you have to hit them dead on, which is not easy when your degree of control is “how much do you want this toy to flail”.

so what you’re left with, then, are two figures swinging wildly at each other, neither capable of actually winning, but one is far more likely to succeed at least once than the other. and that’s just quintessential transformers, i think.

anyway, the reason i’m sharing this story is i think the gif is hilarious
