most certainly, ol’ chap. let’s crack open the fedora and gaze into the abyss

first of all: yes. laito is absolutely terrified of being forgotten. but not in the cute, “i want to be remembered 🥺” way. no. his fear is bone-deep, existential, carved into him from childhood. because for most of his life, he was forgotten—not just ignored, but deliberately unseen. not a son. not a boy. not even a person. just a plaything for cordelia’s appetites, a secret shame shoved behind locked door cordelia didn’t neglect laito—she consumed him. devoured his innocence, wore his pain like perfume, and discarded him when he no longer fed her ego. the only “love” he ever received was abusive: predatory, performative, transactional. so of course he fears being forgotten. he already was

his entire identity now balances on one unspoken, desperate belief:

if i’m not entertaining, seductive, outrageous—then i’m nothing. invisible. disposable. again

so he reinvents himself. becomes the fedora-wearing, velvet-slick, wine-drenched sex-gremlin theatre kid from hell. not to be loved—but to be seen. because love fades. attention burns. but infamy sticks.

he doesn’t want affection. he wants fixation. obsession. a captive audience. because being hated is still a kind of intimacy

and yes, he fears loneliness. deeply. but he believes it’s inevitable—so he romanticizes it. because if no one will ever truly see him, then he’ll make damn sure they never see past the mask

but when the mask slips? when someone offers sincerity—genuine care, unsexualized kindness? he ruins it. cracks a joke. crosses a line. becomes intolerable. anything to end the connection before it ends him. because the last time he trusted someone, cordelia’s perfume was in the air and his voice didn’t matter

now. do his brothers know what she did to him?

short answer: yes. longer answer: they all know. but not all of them can face it

kanato? knew intimately. he hoards the knowledge like he hoards teddy: silent until weaponized

shu? absolutely knew. he calls laito a “fake pervert” because he sees the cracks—he knows it’s a mask layered over deep, rotted wounds. shu’s silence isn’t ignorance; it’s refusal. he sees the game and simply refuses to play

reiji? deduced it. repressed it. filed it under “unpleasant family business” and locked it in a drawer with his own emotional constipation

subaru? probably doesn’t know the full extent—he’s too wrapped in his own pain to dig into laito’s filth. but he’s noticed something isn’t right. he just doesn’t ask

ayato? knew. definitely. and he regrets it—deeply. ayato’s whole identity is wrapped in not being the failure. but when laito needed him, he wasn’t there. he turned away. and even if, as a child, he couldn’t have stopped cordelia, he still blames himself. that guilt festers. curdles into defensiveness. because how do you face the fact that your brother was being destroyed two feet away—and you did nothing?

and then there’s karlheinz. the ultimate ghost. the patriarchal void. who absolutely knew. and did nothing. he let laito rot beneath cordelia’s hands because, to him, a third son is just another variable in the grand fuckery that is the adam-eve experiment

so laito learns: no one is coming. not his father. not his brothers. not even God

“does karlheinz even have personality traits?” iconic question. king of absenteeism. emperor of emotional malpractice. the 3-in-1 shampoo-conditioner-dad combo from hell. but yes, beneath the lab coat cosplay and cryptic omniscience, he does have traits—they're just all... ick-inducing 

so, who takes after daddy dearest the most?

reiji, indubitably. he’s the clearest mirror: methodical, image-obsessed, emotionally strangled. terrifyingly devoted to structure, order, and appearance. he inherited karlheinz’s obsession with control over chaos, but where karlheinz is clinical and visionary, reiji is bitter, bruised, and burning for approval he never got

karlheinz orchestrates from a god’s distance. reiji claws for control from the margins, desperate to matter. they both weaponize "logic" as a shield for cruelty. orchestrate suffering and call it duty. but there’s a crucial difference: karlheinz sees people as variables. reiji sees them as threats—to structure, to status, to the brittle self-worth holding him together

in sum: reiji is karlheinz if the grand experiment failed—if the “perfect heir” never arrived, if the divine succession plan crumbled, and the crown stayed in the hands of a man who never wanted it 

(can you blame him for wanting to retire from monarchy and go full philosopher-in-a-castle-core? hell ages you. so does not raising your children apparently lmao)

karlheinz’s narcissism and heir obsession. dad told each wife to birth the “most worthy” son—and ayato swallowed that whole. he inherited the need to win, to dominate, to be the chosen one. but where karlheinz calculates, ayato scrambles. he’s desperate, insecure, validation-starved

kanato–

karlheinz’s god complex, but deranged. kanato’s emotional instability is from cordelia, but his belief that others exist solely to serve his whims? that’s papa. also: the casual cruelty. the entitlement to obedience. the need to destroy what he cannot control. basically, they're both aesthetic sadists

laito–

karlheinz’s emotional negligence cloaked in charm. the cultivated persona. the performative affection. the ability to manipulate without seeming to care. laito is what happens when karlheinz’s coldness is filtered through cordelia’s abuse: seductive, theatrical, dissociated. he learned detachment from the best

So. I wanted to report a situation that happened to me, I think it was yesterday. Like I was talking to a friend of mine asking why guys weren’t interested in me, and like whether I was ugly or something. My friend like SERIOUSLY LOOKED AT ME AND SAID “Nah girl, you’re literally skinny with a big butt, you have pink full model lips, big hazel eyes, gorgeous brown hair, cute small hands and feet. And you’re short!!!!! Wanna know why guys don’t like you? It’s because of that stick up your ass. You literally give people nasty side eyes, and look at them as if you’re superior and you also condemn people for doing stupid shit. Guys at this age don’t want someone with your personality.”
