i think a truly feminist interpretation of her character necessitates an earnest engagement with the full scope of women’s desire— meaning you HAVE to take hetromantic desire seriously insomuch as it is an extremely common experience of female sexuality. you have to do this so you can critique it. and it cant be “het sex good ONLY if the woman has ‘power’ w/in a framework of kink” (i.e “mommy” lily pegs james/reg/barty) because that is also insanely regressive. basically the most nuanced lily evans interpretations are the ones that fully take into account her experience of hetromantic desire in the mainstream/conventional sense; i.e. the gender roles of it all (doe & stag). because this actually opens the door to further discuss the feminist problems that are present in her canon narrative:  loss of identity through the experience of desire, autoeroticization of your own oppression, horror and hetromance as sister genres premised on negotiation & surrender. especially if you are transforming this desire in some way, either by casting it as comphet (in the case of lesbian!lily) or presenting an alternative experience of this same sexuality that calls into question her initial desire for james (in the case of bartylily or other infidelity plotlines).
