As David is going about his day, he comes across Poppies. Poppies is, very casually, skinning a corpse. Poppies doesn't seem to have noticed him yet, apparently solely focused on the task at hand. If David were to look in greater detail, it wouldn't be hard to notice that everything Poppies is wearing appears to be made from materials such as those Poppies is harvesting right now.
@preceding-poppies
[David stands there for a moment, frozen. He watches for a few silent seconds, fingers hovering over his pocket, before he bolts, work boots pitter-pattering loudly against the tile.]
As he flees, he keeps running into Poppies. Again and again and again, he turns a new corner to find Poppies waiting for him. David clearly can't be going in circles, as Poppies has long since abandoned the body Poppies was harvesting. There are plenty of bodies in this forsaken realm, but someone so obviously interesting and amusing to interact with is an opportunity that rarely presents itself.
[Okay, fine. If David can't run...]
[He steps towards Poppies cautiously.]
Hello?
"Hello… strange little thing…"
Poppies smiles a smile that most people only see in horror movies. Poppies shambles towards David slowly, with intent.
[David doesn't dare move, staring down Poppy with a nervous gaze.]
Hi there. Er... who are you? I-I haven't seen you... around... before...
"Poppies is just… Poppies…" Poppies' smile only widens as Poppies' head slowly tilts to the right. "And it would be rather… unusual… if a little thing like you met someone… like Poppies… which makes this event… all the more entertaining…" Poppies continues closing the distance to David as Poppies talks, slowly but surely.

There's a strange, vaguely human person skulking through the shadows. They're wearing skin and bones, and seem to be moving with a purpose.
@preceding-poppies
Well Ash was just walking around before he heard their movement, so, with nothing better to do, they follow the strangely dressed person who thinks shadows can hide them properly.
Poppies continues skulking through the shadows until coming upon a person lying motionless on the floor. They're not dead yet but are close enough to it to be beyond help, as is evident from the pool of blood leaking from their mouth.
Ash doesn't react to this, beyond stopping and raising an eyebrow as to what poppies plans to do with it.
The moment that life leaves the body, Poppies pulls out a knife and moves toward it.
Ash finally speaks, and Poppies assumably knows the voice of endings well enough, so I won't waste any more time describing it. "Typically that act is reserved for beasts, do you mean to treat your fellow as such?"
This is… no fellow of Poppies…
Even were that so the life has… left…
Poppies is just… making use of the raw materials…
No sense in letting it… go to waste…
"But are there not better sources of such needs?"
None are as… plentifully available or as easy to… harvest…
"Hm. I suppose that might be true enough, but is this not something reserved for when you are merely surviving? Given where we are, I find it hard to believe that you couldn't leave such a state."
Poppies is not… merely surviving… Poppies is… thriving here…
So much death… so many raw materials…
This place is truly… wonderful for Poppies…
"Thriving in a state of survival is still no such state of truly living."
This state is… a choice of Poppies… not simple survival…
"Choice or not, it is still simple survival."
You are… rather bullheaded and dull…
Poppies does not like you…
"Is that so? The ability to choose surviving over living does not elevate one above the survival of beasts. It seems to me that you are merely a beast whom speaks." Ash pauses, but merely briefly. Long enough to not overwhelm Poppied with a non-stop monologue, but not long enough for Poppies to properly respond. "I've no quarrel with you, Poppies, but it is odd for a beast to be in such denial. I have no interest in stopping you, although I would prefer to put the poor sod into their after before you start. It is mildly harder when the life is fractured."
You seem to… lack understanding… on a very fundamental level…
Poppies is not… merely surviving…
Poppies does not need this… to survive…
Poppies is… gathering materials for craftmanship…
Poppies could stop this… at any time… but Poppies does not want to because Poppies… enjoys this…
If you… cannot comprehend… the possibility of enjoyment… when it comes to… matters such as these… then either you lead… a very sad life… or you truly are… quite the closed-minded god… and perhaps not the smartest one either…
"I lacked the information that this was done recreationally. I apologize for assuming it was done for survival." Ash kneels down, probably to emphasize the apology or maybe because the old man has tired legs. It's a toss up. "Would you mind me leading this person's life to their after, before you harvest their material? Again, it is mildly harder to do so once their body has been fractured, and it won't take much more than a moment."
It is… a little late for such a request…
Poppies started shortly after this… conversation did…
Would've been nice if you had uh. mentioned that. Anywhere.
Ash sighs, somehow having been unaware of Poppies' harvesting despite being maybe two feet away for the majority of the conversation. "Fine, I will have to do it the usual way then. I do not need to be present for that, so I believe I will be leaving unless you desire me to stay for whatever reason." Ash stands up, stretching his back in the motion, and waits for a response.
Poppies… never had need of your presence… and has neither means nor desire to keep you here…

3/10
poppies would not be… very happy, but poppies would… find a way…
Try to guess my character's fears. They'll have to answer honestly with yes or no and rate out of 10 how scared of it they are.
