Zoos don’t look like this anymore.

They look like this:

Good zoos do not keep their animals in “tiny spaces” with no enrichment.  I’m not pro-roadside zoo.  I’m pro-accredited zoo.  Zoos are incredibly important for conservation and education.

Except the sea lions are blind. One was found as an adult after suffering a gun shot wound to the face that destroyed his eyes. The other was found as an adolescent, weak and starving because it had been blinded and unable to hunt. So they were rescued and introduced and the zoo built them a nice pool where they can swim and sunbathe and people toss them fish. It’s not the biggest exhibit, or the fanciest. But it’s a home for them, where they’re safe and well fed. Sea lions aren’t the most romantic of animals, but they’re a part of SF culture and a lot of us have a soft spot for the loud, bulbous things. And because of zoos, these two get to live long, happy lives.

They also do work with camel populations because the local human population use the camels for food sources the zoos help monitor the camels health.

Another zoo, I want to say it’s the Oregon zoo but don’t quote me on that, is helping female inmates. The zoo works with the female prisons by encouraging the inmates to assist in the breeding and raising of endangered species of butterflies. They plant the specific plants that the butterflies and catapillars need, raise them, and release them. These inmates get noted in any scientific journals that get published. They are giving these inmates a sense of accomplishment and validation.

Zoos not only save species but bring together and assist communities in an effort to save the environment. Zoos, good zoos, are essential to the future and I will fight anyone who tries to say otherwise.

*call underage girls “jailbait” to deflect all blame off men onto the girls*

*desperately defend themselves by insisting men have evolved to be biologically attracted to young, hairless women because youth=fertility, despite the fact that only prepubescent girls are hairless, meaning hairless=not yet capable of becoming pregnant. Not to mention the fact that one of the leading causes of death (maybe THE leading cause of death, though I can’t remember the specifics) of girls age 15-19 is childbirth, meaning young girls are clearly NOT meant to have children*

People want to insist we don’t live in a pedophile culture, but refuse to acknowledge how problematic dress codes are because they are created to shame girls, especially those during puberty who are developing breasts and hips, for wearing comfortable clothes lest they incite lustful feelings in men because they aren’t covered from head to toe….but men shouldn’t be feeling lust towards underage girls period because underage girls should never be sexualitized and if you do you should be rightfully labeled A GODDAMN PEDOPHILE.

The father of a South Carolina girl who died after a fight in her classroom last week made a public plea Monday for answers about what happened to his daughter.

Ten-year-old Raniya Wright died Wednesday, two days after she was injured when a fight broke out at Forest Hills Elementary School in Walterboro – a town of 5,100 people about an hour’s drive west of Charleston.

A week after the fatal injuries, authorities still haven’t told Raniya’s father exactly what happened or what kind of injuries the fifth-grader suffered.

“I’m here today looking for justice for my daughter,” Jermaine Van Dyke told reporters at a news conference Monday. “I want just to find out what happened, how it happened, and who was involved.”  

What we know about the fight and Raniya’s injuries

Raniya suffered serious injuries when a fight broke out March 25 in her classroom, school officials said. It’s not clear what led to the confrontation.

Officials said they stopped the fight, and Raniya was taken to the school nurse’s station. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, Raniya was unconscious when paramedics arrived and they took her to a nearby hospital. Later she was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she died Wednesday.

Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said two fifth-grade students were involved in the fight, which authorities described as a “physical altercation” that did not involve weapons.

Authorities have not said exactly how Raniya was injured, or what kind of injuries she suffered.

Medical University of South Carolina performed Raniya’s autopsy on Friday, but results will not be released for several weeks, said the sheriff’s office and Duffie Stone, the solicitor for the 14th Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.

There have been no arrests, and authorities have not filed any criminal charges in connection with Raniya’s death, the sheriff’s office said. Stone said it was premature to assume there will be any criminal charges filed.

What the school district has said

The Colleton County School Board made its first comments about Raniya’s death after a special meeting Thursday to discuss the incident, CNN affiliate WCSC reported.

“Our board and district have received multiple requests for information,” School Board Chairman Tim Mabry said in a prepared statement, according to WCSC.

“Due to the ongoing investigation and student privacy laws, we cannot share specific details at this time.”

The lack of information angered attendees at the news conference and Raniya’s family.

“We’ve been extremely disappointed,” said Mark Peper, an attorney for Raniya’s father.

“We’ve made multiple attempts to contact both law enforcement and the school district. We heard late Friday evening from the attorney for the school district that was brought on board. Unfortunately, he didn’t have many answers.”
