I want my kids to grow up thinking that I am their safe place.
I pray that their world never comes crashing down on them but if it does, I hope that their first thought will be āItās okay because at least I have my mom to help me get through thisā.

Under appreciated brilliance in Legally Blonde: when an innocent woman on trial for murder learns that her lawyer (āthe top defence attorney in the stateā) sexually harassed one of his studentsāthe same student who had been kind to her, believed in her, and refused to share the alibi sheād been told in confidenceācausing her to decide on dropping out of law school in distress, said innocent woman decides to risk prison by firing the TOP DEFENCE ATTORNEY IN THE STATE to whom she has paid a fortune and have said law student defend her instead, in order to prevent her dropping out of school and giving up on a promising career. This decision is supported by the law studentās ex boyfriendās fiancĆ©, and the presumably long term colleague of the offending attourney who is a partner in his firm and thus would have clear motives for disbelieving or dismissing the report of harassment, but does not.
Elle is believed, her harasser faces immediate consequences for his actions, and she is rallied round by a group of friends, coworkers, and even a teacher (āIf youāre going to let one stupid prick ruin your life, youāre not the girl I thought you were.ā) who go out of their way to support her and ensure that the harassment she faced does not destroy her futureāeven when an innocent woman has to put her own freedom on the line to do it.
Legally Blonde didnāt have to go so hard but it Did That and I love it

Hello this is Nina, your local depressed college girl thatās decided to work on turning her life around and starting the new year with a more positive and happy attitude.
I know there a hundreds of similar lists and tips out there but I just thought Iād get all my favourites in one place and that way maybe motivate myself to actually follow them for once. I know my wording isnāt the best but I tried.Ā
Hereās the few tips Iāve picked up so far and I hope they might help some of you if you are struggling a bit also:
Physical:
Space -Ā your personal/work/study space plays a big role in making you feel productive and motivated. Doesnāt matter if its your dorm room, bedroom, officeā¦you should make it your own as much as you can. Put a plant on your desk, get a nice picture for the wall, hang some fairy lights, get a fluffy blanket for your bed, repaint your walls in your favourite color if you can, just make it cozy and comfy and nice to look at and I guarantee youāll start to feel better. Try to keep it clean and neat, I know itās hard sometimes, but working in a clean space makes you ten times more productive.
Self care - start with physical things, drink those 8 glasses of water and keep a tab on it until you get used to it, use handcream everytime you wash your hands, put on moisturizer every morning and sunscreen when you go out, go for a walk around the park at least every other day, and for fucks sake go to sleep at a reasonable hour, youāll be so grateful in the morning if you do. Show your body some appreciation.Ā
Mental:
Take someĀ āmeā time - we might we donāt have time for this, but itās so important we make some time. First thing in the morning, during the day or before bed, just take a few minutes and relax. Put on your favourite song, burn a scented candle, drink a hot cup of tea, sit down and just breathe.Ā
Be proud of yourself regardless - take that āmeā time and reflect on your day, pat yourself on the back for everything you did even if it was just getting out of bed. Life is a bitch sometimes and you should be just as proud of yourself for the little things. Itās okay to sometimes be lazy, to procrastinate, to not do anything. You arenāt a machine, youāll burn out if all you do is work.
Appreciate the little things - on those lazy days itās sometimes hard to not feel miserable about it. Thatās when you should appreciate the little things in life. Get yourself that coffee you love so much and enjoy it, go to a roof, watch the sunset and appreciate the colors, take a photo of anything you find pretty and look back at them when you feel downā¦make yourself believe those moments made your whole day and suddenly itāll feel like your lifeās meaning isnāt just getting up and working/studying all the time, but enjoying everything you get to do and see in between too.
Other:
Find your interests - and stick to them!! We all like to give up on things if we arenāt immediately good at them. But no one was born an expert. And as clichĆ© as it sounds practise does make perfect. Join a drawing class, a dance club, a writing class, get a course book on your target language, download editing softwear and play around with it, watch documentaries about your favourite subject. If you fall out of your hobby in the end itās no big deal, but youāll know you gave it a try and didnāt miss an opportunity to learn something new.Ā
Journaling - thisĀ might not be for everybody, but I found it helps me clear my mind a lot to put my thoughts on paper and have everything organized in written form. I just love having all my things in one place where I can just look and see where Iām at, whether itās plans for the day, my thoughts, my playlists, pretty pictures, anything really. Itās also a great way to be creative.Ā
Start now - this is the most important one! Kick yourself in the ass and start taking care of yourself today! Get that glass of water right now, light a scented candle, read that book youāve been putting off, watch that documentary about your favourite thing. Start enjoying your life right now, even if itās only for a second, tommorow itāll be two and three the day after and hopefully soon itāll be a whole day.Ā
I would just like to add a few things from my experience, if thatās ok:
Separate where you work and sleep. Constantly doing your work in your bed will make your brain associate your bed with working which will make it more difficult to sleep at night. If you can, make your workspace anywhere else; a desk, the couch, the kitchen table, etc.
If you journal, it doesnāt have to be about anything in particular. Even just writing out your stream of consciousness can be incredibly relaxing and reduce anxiety, Iāve found, and Iām not a big journaler.
Make lists! To do lists, goals listsādonāt keep it all in your brain. Having the things that need done written down somewhere will reduce the stress of having to remember it all and having everything jumbling around in your brain.
Go for walks. Do yoga. Anything physical that gets your heart rate up is fantastic for depression and anxiety. Charge up your phone, crank the tunes, and go out and play PokĆ©mon Go! Youāll be surprised at how quickly a 5 minute walk can turn into an hour and a half, doing that! And when you DONāT want to go out and walk, thatās when you definitely SHOULD make yourself go. Itāll help you clear your head and make you feel like youāve accomplished something.
Eat healthy. As much as you might not feel like cooking, having a homemade meal instead of ordering out or heating up something frozen will make you feel better. Take the time to cook. Meal prep if you have to. Comfort food might seem like a good idea but itās not going to help your depression.
Love on an animal. Petting and cuddling animals reduces stress and anxiety. If you have a pet, take the time to show them some love. Cuddle with them. Play with them. Take them for a walk. Donāt have a pet? Borrow one from a friend or volunteer at a shelter!
Set a routine and stick to it. Go to bed and wake up at the same times every day. Plan your āme timeā and exercise into your routine. Write it down, schedule it out. You can break it down as much or as little as you need to, but you have to make yourself stick to that routine until it becomes second nature.
Take your meds. Set an alarm on your phone if you need to, but make sure youāre taking your medication (if youāre on any). You donāt want to be missing days.
Talk to people once in a while. Humans are social creatures. We need interaction and human connections. Online is great and all, but try and talk to someone in real life at least once a day. Call up your mom and talk about your day, go see that movie with your friend that youāve been dying to see, get lunch with a coworker, make friendly conversation with the cashier at the store.
Do a good deed for someone else. It will make you feel good as well.
Being a millennial is getting buyerās remorse over a $3.83 pack of oreos.
This is genuinely hilarious but fuckin terrible
Emergency cleaning: Unfuck your whole house in the shortest time possible
So, your landlord/parents/home inspector/favorite movie star is dropping by, and your place is a disaster. You donāt have much time to clean it up. Youāre in emergency mode. Letās get started.
Donāt panic. Panic leads to fear, fear leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to the dark side. You can do this, but you have to stay calm.
Unlike maintenance cleaning, weāre not looking to completely unfuck one space at a time. Instead, we want to decrease the overall mess in stages, spread evenly across the whole area that weāre concerned about. If you think your home is at Level 10 filth, we want to bring the whole thing down to a Level 9, and then down from there. One really clean spot in an otherwise messy home is not going to be helpful here.
Get prepared. Youāll want to shut the computer down (or turn the modem off if you need your computer to play music). Trust me. Get your music going. Gather up trash bags, your vacuum and mop, some rags or paper towel, sponges, and other cleaning supplies. Use what you have on hand. Donāt get distracted running to the store and spending an hour browsing cleaning supplies. A multi-purpose cleaning concentrate or a jug of vinegar will be just fine.
Breaks are very important. Depending on your time constraints, work in 20/10s (20 minutes working, 10-minute break) or 45/15s. But take breaks because otherwise youāre marathoning, and marathon cleaning is no oneās friend. Keep hydrated, donāt forget to eat, and check in with yourself frequently to make sure youāre physically doing OK.
Make your bed. This will be your home base if you get overwhelmed or need somewhere clear to take a break.
Start with the garbage. Going from room to room, throw out anything that is obvious trash. Once you fill a bag, take it out. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Move on to dishes. Gather the dishes from all over your house and bring them to the kitchen. If you can, start them soaking in a sink of hot, soapy water or start loading the dishwasher. After the dishes are all in one place, spend one 20/10 getting started getting them under control.
Now itās time for your flat surfaces. Countertops, tables, dresser tops, etc. Clear them off and wipe them down. Donāt get distracted in too much sorting and organizing. Weāre in crisis mode here. There will be time to get in-depth once this is all done. The same applies to cabinets and closets. Unless you have reason to believe people will be opening closed doors, leave these alone for now.
Attack the floordrobe and shoe pile. Get your clothes either put away or in the hamper. Start a load of laundry if you need to, but keep in mind that laundry and dishes have three steps: wash, dry, and put it away, goddammit!
Get random stuff up off the floors. If something is trash-worthy, throw it away now rather than just move it around a bunch of times. Otherwise, put stuff where it belongs.
Take another 20/10 or 45/15 to catch up on more dishes, if needed.
Head into the bathroom. Pour some cleaner in the toilet bowl, fill the sink with hot water and cleaner, and either spray the tub and shower with cleaner, or fill the tub up with some hot water and add cleaner and let it soak. Put everything away thatās out and shouldnāt be, clean the mirror, counters, and toilet seat. Sweep or dry mop the floor. Wipe down the sink and tub/shower, and give the toilet bowl a scrub. Mop the floor.
Sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Vacuum everything you can, and sweep everything you canāt.
Walk outside of your house (donāt lock yourself out, please). Walk back in and see what catches your eye first. Go and deal with that.
If youāre being inspected or your landlord is coming in for repairs, spend time on whatever area theyāll be focusing on.
Give the whole place one more once-over and pay attention to anything youāve missed so far.
Itās an old trick, but if your place is a little funky-smelling, put a pan of water on the stove on low heat and add some citrus or cinnamon or vanilla. Donāt leave it unattended or forget about it.
Take a shower, put on something clean, and eat something.
You can do this. Itās overwhelming, yes, but it is not impossible. You just need to do it. You have a list. You have directions. You have a whole bunch of Internet strangers who have been there before and who are cheering you on. You can do this, but you need to get started.
Why are you still here? GO. START. NOW.
the number of times in my past that I desperately wanted/needed someone to sit me down and tell me this stuff. I will never get back the hours and hours lost to headless-chicken mode, but itās nice to know that in the last year Iāve learned so many coping mechanisms :D
I really, really, really need to just print this out and magnet it to my fridge.
This is what itās like to be an adult.
