I’ve noticed a sudden influx of pseudo feminism in my daily social media peruse. The kind of feminism that attempts to narrowly dictate how women should empower themselves. Where women are policed and shamed for flaunting their bodies because somehow modesty (peppered with a little shame) is more socially acceptable. For so many, women who express self-love are vain and female nudity always implies sinful promiscuity. I’d like to ask these women and men, who (perhaps unintentionally) use feminism to perpetuate a veiled patriarchal agenda, to take a seat for a moment and ask themselves why they feel entitled to define empowerment for anyone else. Some of us flaunt, some of us don’t, some of us are somewhere in between. It’s all fine, it’s all ours to define. We may be both, we may be neither but we are definitely definitely definitely not yours.
