First off some applause for everyone still on the bus and especially those driving it. This has been crazy and fun and positive and I love seeing all the threads people pull together.
Second- i keep thinking about how strange the WSQK radio was being in the lead-up to the documentary. New times listed for it to go liveā¦and then nothing? The GlobalPlayer saying that the broadcast for the 11th had gone live but then nothing happening, a period where the title should be? New dates AND A NEW DESCRIPTION being made for airings the (Fri) 16th and (Sat) 17th but the next day seeing ALL EVIDENCE OF THE WSQK ERASED from GlobalPlayer?
On the one hand, it felt like we had simply been baited again. Radio dangled, pulled away at the last second.
On the other hand, I wondered if someone had managed to go rogue with the WSQK and they (netflix or the st people or whomever) had only been able to stop these ppl from baiting the community by getting rid of the whole thing.
Then again thereās the chance that maybe we werenāt supposed to be watching that closely.
Butā¦ havenāt we been talking about signals being so important this whole time? Wasnāt the WSQK one of the first places where we saw a real breaking the 4th wall moment talking about everyone being connected? Donāt the characters all communicate via radio? Everyone anticipating something to happen on the 11th and nothing seeming to come through??
Maybe a signal sentā¦but unable to be properly received.
Which in this show? Nobody is a stranger to.
So what stops a signal? Proximity or interference.
This might be where Iām going off the deep end-
Because another thing strange about the WSQK radio showā¦ why was it being run by the villains of the series?? I mean, Mindy Flare and Vance Goodman are pretty on the nose. But isnāt it odd that the official broadcast that we associate with our heroes- the place that acts as their unofficial team base at this point-is being run by the villains? Even before the advent of s5?
Sure, it could just be to make the radio show a bit more interesting, but really any characters or stand-ins could have been chosen. We could have had subtle references to Robin and Steve instead of Vecna and the Mindflayer and it would have been just as exciting for hyping up season 5.
But we didnāt. s5 comes around and-
Oh would you look at that radio tower!! The MindFlayer particles seem to really like it. (Big shoutout to those who are speculating from this scene and the WSQK broadcast ending that the MindFlayer had taken over the tower and was using it to boost the signal across Hawkins)
But the questions that leaves us with when thinking about our own WSQKās signal issues are: 1) Who is (was) trying to send a message? 2) Who (or what) was preventing it?
If this really does go super meta with the idea of realities combining and blurring then weāre faced with another two options: MF sending to infect us, someone preventing it to protect; someone sending for help, MF preventing it;
Or a third: the signal canāt get through because we simply arenāt close enough yet.
(Fourth option is none of the above and we just go crazy together) let me know what you all think!
