August 2026 Nonthaburi Shootings

Information i have gathered

Morning of August 7 in the Bang Bau Thong District Thailand, 14 year old Patchat Yimruang took his grandfathers gun from their home and killed both his grandparents. He then went to his school, Debsirin Nonthaburi School (a well known Boys secondary school) where was a 9th Grade student.

At around 9:30am, Patchat opended fire, he started on the 6th floor of building 5, the target was mainly teachers but also students, he then went to the 5th floor to change magazines, attempting to shoot more but the gun jammed, He went to the 4th floor and shot at Kittipong Somrat, the deputy director of student affairs then shot at Saiphon Sirikitjachakhon, resulting in both their deaths. He went down to the 3rd floor, fired shots into the Thai language teachers lounge, then into various classrooms firing shots. He returned to the 5th floor. Then he went back to the 3rd floor, barricading himself in the computer room. At 10:30am, he committed suicide, he was still alive when found and passed on the way to the hospital.

The incident resulted in 10 deaths, including Patchat and his grandparents.

Timeline: The attack unfolded at approximately 5:00 a.m. when the teenager shot his grandparents at their home in Bang Bua Thong. He later boarded his regular school van to travel to campus with the weapon.

School Shooting: Around 10:00 a.m., he opened fire at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School. He deliberately targeted school staff, killing the deputy director, the director's secretary, and three other teachers.

Count:Seven victims died in total. More than 20 others were injured, with at least nine people remaining in critical condition. No student fatalities were reported.

Outcome: The 14-year-old suspect took his own life on the fourth floor of a school building as responding police cornered the area.

Fun fact about the town: Unlike Sydney, Newcastle and some other major cities in NSW that use the opal travel system, Grafton doesn’t use it! For busses you pay with coins or debit/credit cards and are given a receipt to show if your trip was one way or returning. Also Grafton is a small suburb so the only train line goes north to Brisbane or south to Sydney. (i’m a train nerd)
