Police officers explain how theyâre encouraged to act in racist ways
These NYPD officers are the plaintiffs in class-action lawsuit alleging the department is violating a 2010 state ban on arrest quotas.Â

job applications just keep getting weirderâŚ..
pro jobseeking tip: never answer these surveys honestly
also a tip: if they have a question like âEverybody steals from work sometimesâ answer âdisagree.â I found this out when i was working as a hiring manager and the company i worked for started instituting these tests for managerial hires or promotions. My boss and I were promoting someone and she failed the test because she answered that question as âslightly agreeâ which in the results tells them that she is someone likely to steal because she believes everyone does it. When we asked her about her answer, it turns out she picked what she did because sheâs cynical and does assume that people steal but didnt agree with them doing so. she almost sued the company for not promoting her based on that but chose to leave instead. We lost a good employee because corporate decided these tests were a good way to screen for âgoodâ employees. tldr these things are poorly designed, ambiguously worded, and structured in ways that are designed to eliminate people because the intention of the questions is never made clear. these tests are evil.
this sounds like an ableist disaster for people who arenât neurotypical and who struggle with reading signalsÂ
When I went to get diagnosed with ADHD, the neuropsychologist couldnât figure out what was going on, because on paper Iâm apparently floridly psychotic.  No, the questions are imprecise, and I am hyper-literal and extremely honest. Â
âDo you often see things that other people do not see?â Â Yes.Â
The question I was answering:  âAre you especially observant?â
The question the test was actually asking:  âAre you having visual hallucinations?âÂ
âDoes your environment ever have special messages for you?â Â Yes. Â
The question I was answering:  âDoes the sudden sight of a rainbow during a   bout of doubt and self-loathing make you feel as though the world is trying to cheer you up?â
The question the test was actually asking:  âDo you believe that your toaster is trying to convince you that the neighbors are spying on you?â
Five years later, I bombed a psych eval for a park ranger job for the same sort of thing. Â Tread carefully, darlings. Â
^^^^ that is actually such a huge issue with diagnosis!!!! and Iâve thought I didnât experience symptoms for ages that I actually clearly had all along because of things being phrased super weirdly and confusingly :(
And this is why McDonaldâs never called me after I applied
Yeah, this is why this kind of thing in job apps needs to be illegal. A lot of discrimination is well hidden.
Oh! That explains why even having friends and my then-husband proofread these every time didnât even work. They may not be as weird as me, but theyâre not neurotypical. We all read the questions tantefledermaus mentioned as observational skills!
Fuck. This explains why Iâve failed all of these fucking things.
My sister said to answer these as if you were a really passive person who relied on management/authority to tell you exactly what to do/think.
Protip: my Dad is a hiring manager at Home Depot and he told me the system they use (with the stupidass pointless 500 question quiz) is designed so it filters out people with neutral answers. Several months ago I applied for numerous jobs, each of which required their own dumbass tests. To save time (and my sanity) i would click the âsometimesâ or middle option for nearly every question unless it was serious. Nobody every called me back. Hell only 1 of the 8 places i applied to even messaged me back saying âthank you but we have gone with someone elseâ. Your applications wont even get seen unless you âpassâ the quiz.
So when all yall do fill out these dumb things be sure to pick strong yes or no answers. Never âmaybeâ or âslighty agree/disagreeâ
Thank you for that, cause I do that a lot. Like I legit feel neutral on some of those questions. Tumblr with the life hacks
Itâs really bad for someone who isnât neurotypical because often, these questions do contain language meant to filter us out.
For me, I tend to notice the ones meant to filter out people with ADD, like myself. For example âdo you have trouble focusing on one taskâ or âdo you like to move around.â My normal answers to these would be âyes, but I have it under controlâ and âof course, no one can sit still for hoursâ. But corporations read them as âdo not hireâ
Itâs a bunch of BS. So I answer them like a yes man from office space. Works pretty well.
Someone once told me also, I think it was regarding the Macyâs job application I had filled out, that they will ask you the same question a few different ways in order to weed out people who arenât fluent in English. Basically, if you answer âStrongly Agreeâ to the question worded one way and then âSomewhat Agreeâ to the same question worded differently, they write you off as not fluent in English (which is unfair) and you are less likely to get hired because of this (which is racist!!!).
oh god the filtering of neutral answers and not keeping my answers totally consistent is probably what screws me, that shit is insidious
I, for one, like Roman numerals.
Bro this isnât a bad joke itâs really well thought out

FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT PERCY WEASLEY, WHO WAS THOUGHT TO BE STUFFY AND SERIOUS, WAS THE LAST PERSON WHO MADE FRED WEASLEY LAUGH.Â
FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT PERCY WEASLEY IS STILL A TITANIC ASSHOLE WHO DID NOT EARN REDEMPTION.
EXCUSE ME? YOU COME ONTO MY POST? MY POST ABOUT PERFECT PERCY AND YOU SAY THIS? OH NO HONEY, YOUâRE NOT GETTING OFF THAT EASY.
Percy Weasley 100% deserved his redemption and you want to know why?! Too bad, Iâm going to tell you. For his whole life, Percy Weasley was made fun of, he was teased by all his siblings, constantly the butt of jokes. Whenever he was proud of his accomplishments, his family (besides his mother) shut him down. Prefect? Fred and George made fun of him for bragging, for being excited that he lived up to Bill and Charlieâs shadow. Head Boy? Fred and George teased him, stole his badge because they thought it was funny. Percy was so happy and proud of himself and his brothers tore him down. He was pushed aside for Bill or Charlie or even Ron and Ginny. Sure, his mother was proud of him, but his brothers made sure they made his life hell. When he got his job at the Ministry he was so excited. Right of school he got a job he loved, a job he was sure he was good at. He talked about it a lot but thatâs what happens when youâre excited. His parents were proud, but again, his siblings made sure to tease him. When Crouch didnât know his name, his siblings laughed, Fred and George sent him dragon dung.Â
Then he gets the job of Junior Assistant to the Minister. Heâs proud because heâs 2 years out of school and has this prestigious position. Of course heâs going to want to share with his family. What do they do? Tell him his hard work meant nothing, that the Minister was using him (and sure, that was probably true, but Percy was so excited). He saw that he and his family shared two very different views and opinions, some words were said, and Percy left. Reminds me of another beloved character that never gets shit about leaving his family from the fandom. Any guesses who? If you said Sirius Black you are correct! Like Sirius, he left home and the family he clearly no longer saw eye to eye with. Thatâs not a problem. He felt as though he was in a toxic environment, and honestly he was. I do not blame him for leaving his family even if they were for the wrong reasons. (but why does Percy get shit for leaving a toxic family when Sirius doesnât? interesting) Now we donât know what happened when he was at the Ministry. He wrote a letter to Ron that was a bit rude, but weâre also seeing this from Harryâs limited POV. Maybe Percy regretted leaving, maybe he loved his freedom and never wanted to go home. We just donât know. He finally does come home for Christmas in 1996 (HBP), where he openly welcomed by his mother. He was being used by Scrimgeour, but he went. While his mother was welcoming, his siblings are not. He leaves with mashed parsnips in his face. Did he want to be there? No idea, but he went. How do you think he felt leaving? Probably awful. He didnât go to Bill and Fleurâs wedding, but it was clear from the way his family treated him the year before that even if he did go, no one wanted him there.
The Battle of Hogwarts comes and Percy comes back. Yes, comes back. He went back to the family he left, he apologized for leaving and for being âfamily disowning, ministry loving, power hungry moronâ (as Fred put it), which he takes full blame for being. What happens next? Fred welcomes him back. Then his parents. Then George. They did not need to do this, but they did because they were family and they still loved each other. Percy fights in the Battle and ends up going up against Pius. He makes the âHello, Minister, did I mention that Iâm resigning!â joke which shows that his limited view has been expanded. He finally saw what was wrong with this Ministry, with what was happening around him (though this may not all be his fault, he surrounded himself with people who also had very limited knowledge and views). When Fred is shown dead, it is Percy who is crying over his body, Percy who tries to protect his body and hide it. Wonder how guilty he felt after this happened because he made Fred laugh and then Fred dies. We donât know what happens to Percy after this but we clearly know he has a very fierce love of his family and that he was really and truly sorry.Â
So TLDR; Percy loves his family and was very sorry and hurt by them. He 100% deserved his redemption even if you donât think so. And if you donât, donât comment on other peopleâs posts about him saying rude things about Percy because you will be proven wrong. Thank you and have a good day.Â
Honestly, if my family shut me down for every single good thing that happened to me, that I earned, Iâd leave too. Staying loyal to people who constantly ignore or make fun of your position is exhausting. I hated Percy at first too, but then I realized that if I was in his position, I wouldnât act any different. No one needs that kind of toxicity in their life.

Maybe youâre just oversensitive.
no men just suck
I hate that social media has commodified performative grief and outrage to the point that every fucking person thinks that every tragedy that happens needs to be addressed by them, personally. I hate that thereâs an expectation that everyone make some grand statement and that if you donât do it, you must be heartless or hate the victims. Weâre not all celebrities or politicians. Not every voice needs to be heard at all times. The world probably doesnât NEED anyoneâs take if it doesnât contain new information. Processing things silently isnât bad and it doesnât make anyone a bad person and I honestly much prefer it to a lot of the self-serving bullshit you see when something awful happens in the world.
I fall into that trap. Most people do. Itâs shit and it produces a lot of shit sentiment. âWHY ARENâT PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!â is my least favorite sentence in the world right now. Most people, when it comes to tragedy, have nothing to say. Most uninvolved people, in these circumstances, should say less.
Also people donât always have access to all kinds of media and people take that for granted.
Buzzfeed made a privilege test, I got a 13 and the highest Iâve seen this go was 78
