He was pleasantly surprised to hear her join in badmouthing the place. Sure, he was great at playing polite, but it was never any fun.
James blanched at ādisappearā, and swore he could feel the colour return to his cheeks when he realised she was only joking. He mightāve assumed it was a joke, if not for his own boss disappearing people at the snap of his fingers.
But he laughed, relief and humour swirling up his throat; his chuckle was genuine, and he couldnāt have stopped it if heād tried. It simmered down to straight lips soon enough though. HeĀ wasnāt trying to get in trouble here. For once.
āU-Understood,ā he stammered, and the salute he gave was like a reflex: a reset to professionalism, lest he come across a little too callous.Ā āI certainly wouldnāt want that.āĀ
He chewed at her words.Ā āI take it you have firsthand experience with Mr. Faba then, maāam?ā He grimaced a little, wringing his hands as he wondered if he was prying too much. āMay I ask, how youāve, erm, fared?ā
She smiled a bit at his chuckle, glad that she could at least get him to loosen up a bit. It was very tiring to be around so many boring people all of the time. Not that she made an effort to talk to people who didnāt spark her interest anyways.
āWell no, I havenāt really talked to him face to face.ā Anything that could be considered communication was usually through a third party.Ā āI simply have observed him while heās within view. I have a sort of talent with observing people and getting a bigger picture of things. So far I havenāt got in trouble for it, so I suppose thatās good.ā That was a very kind way of saying she was basically spying.Ā
