I'm more than just trash

I’m holding onto everything my life is,

Everything my life was,

Everything my life is going to be.

Fearful of all this change,

I’m clinging to those promises I’ve made:

No longer will I let words affect me;

No longer will I listen to the harsh things that people have to say.

Because sticks and stones break bones,

But words cut deeper.

Words have molded me into this;

This is nothing I want;

This is something I will struggle with my entire life.

…And it’s all because of words.

I’m holding onto everything my life is,

As tears spot the page,

Recognizing my age 

Is almost too much to bear.

So long has this been going on;

So long have I struggled with this something I don’t want.

And I will struggle my entire life.

Taking in the words of truth, 

I recall my youth;

I regain my peace, my confidence in myself,

For in Him, there is more.

I realize I am loved regardless of my appearance, my thoughts, my actions.

I am recognized by Him as His child:

Beautiful.

Clean. 

New.

Saved.

And even though I will never be as I was before,

I know that I have to struggle no more.

Because now I have some sense of security,

Not my photo, just my edit.
